Great advice everyone, and thx for adding!
It blows my mind how much could be saved... yet some companies refuse to give fuel bonuses, mine included![]()

Sounds like the Seinfeld episode where Cramer and Newman were drinking up or guzzling down a certain soft drink so they could take the empties to a nearby state and cash them in for a return deposit. Let's just say it didn't end well for those two knuckle heads. Still trying to figure out the math some of y'all use but the fuel rebate is relative to the fuel you purchase. If you get better MPG, you spend less on fuel and that means the more money you save, period. But like they say, wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster.

If you are interested in reading about ways to increase your fuel economy in your vehicle, you may want to read two articles www.overdriveonline.com/smart-driving-6 and www.overdriveonline.com/smart-driving-22

Good article with good tips. I keep my speed at 58 or less, progressive shift (13spd), keep my rpm between 12 and 14 hundred and most important, keep moving taking short breaks as need for my poochie and me. Always make my appt. times and best of all, average 7.6 mpg. Funny, when I was a company driver, I managed to be in the raffle every month for those getting above average fuel mileage. Never won a thing but now as an owner operator, I put an extra 1,200 or more a month in my pocket because of my fuel savings. Besides less wear and tear on my rig, it's a win win situation. So I win the lottery every month, yea...

My biggest downfall is I like to get there and back ASAP, plus I have no incentive to save the company fuel... I just enjoy playing with the numbers of the fleet, and seeing what is possible on my own. Who knows, some day I may just buy my own again?
My personal MPG running it @ 70mph in a 2012 D-13 Volvo highrise
empty = 7.6
loaded = 5.5
Being nice w/ it @ 60-63 mph
empty = 9.3
loaded = 7.2
I've never had enough patience to run in the 50's mph, nor could I complete my trip @ that speed. Chicago suburbs-Dayton Oh. everyday.
Wonder what other drivers see, if you care to share? -
Took a 35K load from Laredo to Houston today going 56 MPH and got 7.76 MPG.
