Woofwagon, here is what I would do. I would call the company up and ask them what the policy is about sharing the truck as part of the job, specifically asking about the fridge. Then I would ask them what is the policy about using the truck to deadhead over to Wally world or some other place to get food. Once you get a name and the policy I would tell the trainer that we are making scheduled stops for your supplies and if he doesn't like it, he can pay for your food out of the vending machines or call those people up who gave you the policy and have him explain why he is doing what he is doing.

NO matter what fear you may have with this idiot, remember if you are not eating right and eat crap, your performance degrades and so does the safety of the truck because of your performance so if you get anyone complaining about it, pull out the safety card and play it up.

Remember your health is more important then his attitude.

No disrespect intended at all towards WoofWagon. I respectfully offered some suggestions on what he could buy when he went to ANY supermarket that would keep him fed, and would keep without refrigeration. Whether the bill at the supermarket checkout is $60 or $75, he's gonna be fed and it will still be a lot cheaper than truckstops or a vending machine. The OP asked for suggestions.

The MamaBoy comment was directed straight at glenn71, who tried to twist the question of where the OP got to do his food shopping into what a trainers job is. Is it really a requirement of the trainers job or just a nice plus for them to teach someone how to buy food for the road or where to eat?

Being a trainee is a temporary thing. Being a trainer means it shouldn't be team driving, so in theory there should be plenty of time for them to hit WalMart too. Maybe that isn't the case here.

My apology to LoboSolo, my bad for aiming my reply at him. Just didn't like how the thread degenerated. And Lobo was an innocent bystander. Sorry Bud.

We all talk about respect here, I just felt that Woof was asking a perfectly reasonable question, in the new driver forum. He explained that his wife was working 2 jobs, and didn't want to ask more of her. Which shows that he gives a hoot, he wasn't looking for a "handout", just a "hand up". For me I didn't see anything but a good guy asking for some advice.

As far as the trainer goes, does he have to do anything for the newbie? No. Should he be a bit more accommodating? I think so. Do unto others...

    We've been there, that's why we're here.

No problem Zig. And I have no problem with glenn77 either.

Maybe part of the solution, and the training process is talking with the trainer and working out a mutually acceptable solution on the food issue. Human relations is part of trucking too.

Woof, with the new HOS you are required to take a 30 minute break within the first 8 hours on-duty.
That is the perfect time to pull into a Walmart and do your shopping.

You say that you can use his lunchbox oven.
I have one that I heat up soup and beans with.
I also bake potatoes, steam vegies, cook rice (try adding about 1/3 cup rice to some chicken vegy soup - it will fill you up), etc.

    mje and pattyj Thank this.
