I noticed this week that if I dont have the A/C on and not moving, when the water temp climbs the fan does'nt come on. When i unplugged the sensor at the water pump it goes into a default and fan stays on. My question is,which sensor tells the fan to come on when the water temp reaches 217? The sensor on the waterpump or the small sensor at the front top of the head that has a small stud coming out that a single wire pushes onto that stud? Thx in advance. Also when the A/C is on the fan cycles like it should. So I know it's water sensor related just not sure which sensor.

Are you sure that the temperature reading in the ECM is the same as your gauge? My Peterbilt gauge is 15 degrees different than what the ECM reads.

Well the gauge reads about 225 when the high water light comes on,but no fan.I'm unsure which sensor tells the ecm the water temp for the fan to respond.

Mine never really ever came on either and I've had the truck since brand new. I have just always flipped the switch on @ around 190...going up a grade...in the summer. I was told the Acert operates normally @ 200 degrees. I never could get used to this so I swapped out the thermostats with a pair of Pittsburgh Power tstats. 150-180 degrees all day long. That was back in 05. Never had a problem.

I'm not really having an overheating problem. I'm having a fan not being told to come on problem. It comes on with manual switch and cycles with A/C.

You most likely need a new temp. sensor! It's kind of a pain to get to. It is on the right front of the thermostat housing, and you have to come in from the fan side with a socket & ratchet!!

That's what I'm thinking. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't the easy one to get to up top that gave the ecm the engine temp for the fan.

The one on top is for the dummy light, on my BXS a few years ago the light and buzzer came on, the gauge read normal, changed that one and the light and buzzer went off.
