I didn't know school counts as employment because prime won't accept me because I have not been employed since last Xmas but if I go to Roadmaster they'll accept me.

So prime is out of the question for me since I have been unemployed for 8 months?

I applied Thursday, and was called Friday by recruiter Lane who is hoping I can get on the doggy to MO for the Sep 17th orientation week for training. I'm ready to put in notice at my current employer and get it done but I am on a few meds that research here is leading me to believe might be disqualifiers. I specifically asked Lane about meds, and he said the best he could do was to refer me to the fmcsa website because he didn't have any specifics. I suggested bringing a letter from my Doc stating that I am medically alright to drive on these meds and he thought that would be ok. Before I commit, is there anyone else I can or should ask to speak with regarding this issue? I don't want to go down and get sent home for meds.
I know that the meds topic has been kicked around ad nauseum around here, which is why I'm hoping I can get pointed to someone who knows the answers. -
A recruiter will have a better answer than we will.

It boils down to what Prime's company doctor will allow. The FMCSA rules are the minimum guidelines, but carriers can be more strict about what they allow... and that is legal according to the labor laws as long as it has a legitimate purpose and is applied to all applicants. So that doesn't really answer your question does it? First, you can try using the TTR search engine to see if there is any buzz about your meds on the site. Second, there is a $50 way to get a good approximation... go find a Concentra clinic, and have them do a DOT physical on you. Just tell them you are thinking of going to CDL driving school, and need to get it done.
That doesn't relieve you of having Prime do another one once you get to orientation, and you still have to get past Dr. A. It will let you know if there is anything you are taking that is a show-stopper. Usually if you have a prescription that can't be allowed, Prime refers you back to your personal physician to see if you can get off of it, or there is an alternative that you can take that is acceptable. It means going home, changing/stopping the med, and seeing if you are OK to drive after 30 days. It also means going home for that period of time... and the financial upset that comes with that.
Sorry we can't be of more assistance, but it really is up to the doctors.Last edited: Sep 1, 2013

Does Prime mainly run NE runs. I know they are OTR but I hear that Prime is over saturated with drivers in the NE area. I live in South Texas. Would Prime have me run west of the Mississippi?
-
Prime will run you all 48 states, BUT you will be spending alot of time east of the Mississippi, as far as the NE region, you may spend some time there. If you want to to stay predominately in the texas region then Prime has a Texas regional for flatbed. Apply and run flatbed.

Thank you Highway101.

Thanks a bunch, I appreciate that. I'll do the Concentra thing, since I think I'm going to have to renew my card anyhow in order to get my class A permit. If I get past them, I'll get some letters from my doctor and head down to take my chances with Primes Doc. If not, I'll go to my doctor and start the process of going off of my meds. Plus checking here for any info I can glean out of this site.
Thanks again. -
I went to Primes school and then training pad ever day for 2 weeks back a truck once and drove on the driving range once. then the 15th day they put me with instructor, was with him 5 days and quit. I talk to dispacter and he told me then I wouldnt get bill for training because it was before the 7th day was up. Now Prime is trying to collect and I have left several messages and no one has called back, Can someone help me with this or tell me who I need to call Thanks
