If it wasn't a guy on the show then I am willing to bet it was some joker who got the idea from watching the show.

"Hey! I got me a pickup truck and a interweb connection so I'm qualified to do this! I'll start right now! Oh boy I'm going to make $1000 a day just like them drivers on tv!"

I get guys on pickup truck forums that think that, till I tell them some of the facts, most change their minds.

On a note related to this story, I wonder what type of tie downs he used to allow the vehicles to come loose. I had a dually and 3 car trailer pass me one day and all the vehicles were tied down with those 1 inch wide, 500Lbs. capacity ratchet straps. If the driver would of ever hit the brakes hard, they'd of been killed when the first vehicle came off the trailer and crushed the cab of the pickup.

I hauled at one time and would get a load once in a great while from Ushi* but the people bid on them just to bring the price down so I set my price at what I wanted and if they did'nt pay it I figured they could get a renegade to haul it. I and 100% feedback from them but Ushi* is a schlock outfit and they make a killing of bottom feeding. Those cars can be repaired and put back on the road, just take them to my friends in LA.

Do you have first hand experience with uship? Or are you just speculating, gossiping? I do have the first hand experience. If you win bids, others on there turn in your profile to uship support. I was banned off of there until I gave them my MC#. I told them they do not need my numbers, as I am doing business with the shipper, not them. I wont give them my numbers, so I am still banned. If you have a hard on for the guys on that site just report there profile for not having the required authority to haul over state lines. By the way, if you know how to load a trailer right you can make far more than what the load boards are paying. The biggest difference is CASH on delivery. No waiting for money.

This as taken from Uship's community post: http://community.uship.com/uship/topics/beware_the_uship_police
Section 16 outlines that TSP (transporting company) must be legally able to trannsport the items that they are bidding on, because we do not have the ability to verify all the information of TSP's(Transporting Company), we trust that by agreeing with the User Agreement you are able to haul these items and have all of the necessary credentials to do so

Uship operates on a trust system so if you say you have authority that's all they need. I have hauled for brokers several times a year and they always ask for my information due to the fact that if I have an accident my insurance will take care of the load, this is a norm.

I do have first hand information as my Son listed his company information with Uship but this was not monitory. His first and last back haul bid was for 5 paver machines going from AZ to NC for the state of North Carolina. He waited 4 days for the bids to end and really cut low because he just wanted fuel expense to get home. The last hour he was undercut with a bid of 36 cent a mile, after waiting 4 days for this load he didn't want to wait for another bid so he came home empty. The TSP that underbid him must have had problems getting 5 paver machines in his 24 foot trailer because his feedback indicated shipper was mad but the shipper should have used comman sense when reading his profile (F-250 with 24 foot enclosed trailer.) This load clearly took a 53 foot trailer. Just because the TSP underbid didn't mean he could load them in a 24 foot trailer. A lot of shippers don't know what to look for and some TSP's can't add length and in this case each paver was 10 foot, easy 5X10=50 feet

Here is Uship's take on TSP's:
uShip is a neutral venue where shippers and Service Providers can meet and enter into agreements. uShip is not a Service Provider, freight forwarder, or broker. We are not involved in the actual transaction between shippers and Service Providers. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety, or legal aspects of the transactions that take place on our website. uShip does not prequalify or validate the claims of Service Providers including with respect to their licensure, insurance, and registration. We and our website function solely as a neutral venue and digital clearinghouse where two parties may agree on a price for a particular type of service.

uShip does not screen or qualify Service Providers for compliance with federal, state, or local laws and regulations. as taken from:http://community.uship.com/uship/topics/illegal_transporters, As taken from same page:
agree 100%. If uShip cut out the massive amount of illegal transporters, they'd only make a fraction of what they make now. It's extremely frustrating to deal with competing against illegal transporters, and at the VERY least, a very, very distinct difference should be made for those of us who are legal, so that Shippers are made WELL aware of what they're dealing with. uShip, you have GOT to to do something about this... Your reputation is on the line just as much as ours. For every illegal transporter that gets a Shipper's boat impounded, or whatever other nightmares Shippers encounter, it is uShip that they went through, and uShip that they will talk about to everyone they know. Especially considering you're so in the limelight now with the TV show. Don't you want to boast about the quality of your services? The way things are now, it's pretty unethical to market the quality of your services when you're blatantly allowing illegal transporters to use your site as a venue to profit from.

If someone doesn't list an MC#, they shouldn't be allowed to view the origin/destination map outside of their state. If they don't have a DOT #, they should be placed in an entirely different category and a HUGE flag, badge, or whatever should be seen by ALL Shippers, to be made aware that this provider has not listed their DOT # and may not be a legal transporter. There should be SOME kind of deterrent in place so that LEGAL transporters are HUGELY set apart from all the rest. The way it is now just doesn't come close to cutting it.

You know just as well as we do that "Verified by CarrierWatch" means NOTHING to a Shipper that doesn't have the slightest clue how this industry works. The point is, legal transporters should be set apart form the rest, should have FAR more benefits on this site, and should be singled out from ALL the rest.

Here is the problem, We got a call from a local broker that we know, My Son went up to the DOT impound yard to pick up a boat that was impounded because NC Transportation officer pulled a truck over that blew past the scales, his load was 35 feet long and 12.2 wide and the illegal did not have a permit allowing him to pull oversize load. The boat was impounded and the lady who was a shipper had to get a lawyer because fact that she was the shipper. It cost several thousand just to get the boat out of impound and the TSP didn't have anything close to an authority. His pickup (f-250) was there impounded also. A lot of shippers don't know like this lady who lost her husband and was just trying to get her boat home so she could sell it and didn't know to check TSP so it's these things that upset me. When these TSP get caught everything is impounded and some loose all their property.

    Another post from same page:
According to the DOT and FMCSA, it is ILLEGAL (against the law) to participate in Interstate Commerce without a DOT number. Commerce, as it applies to what we are doing here, means an exchange of services (transporting goods) for money. Every "Truck Company" that does not have a DOT #, and accepts money, is breaking the law. For those of us, who have done our due diligence and spent the extra money to be legal, carry a log book, have a DOT physical, pay for commercial truck insurance, etc., it is massively offensive that we have to compete with "criminals". Breaking the law is a crime. I hate that I have to compete with people, who don't have the same expenses as me. Why in the world should my business have to suffer, because my competition refuses to abide by the laws of the road. Uship and every company operating illegally should be ashamed.

I feel sorry for guys like this: "
My car was put on a trucking company less than a year old. The driver was 4 days late getting to my city to drop off my car. Actually, the car never made it. The driver decided to pick up more cars while I was still waiting and my car was involved in a wreck and arrived in pieces. I have not gotten a single cent for my classic car that was destroyed. They have done nothing to help me in the situation and said that it is out of their hands."

I don't know why they wanted your DOT or MC# as pointed out by uship:

One thing to remember; it's their website and they can ban but this is usually when some one gives them a hard time
I've been trucking for 53 years and you don't get 17 road units plus 6 local trucks by not knowing the industry or how to load a trailer. When I see people being hurt by those so called TSP's yes it upsets me because there are a lot of fine guys driving trucks and I don't like to see their reputation slain. If you read the page I supplied you will see where Uship does not do anything about reported illegal trucks and has told these guys that report TSP's to let uship run their business.

Another point: when a truck sets days waiting on a bid to end and he get's lowballed I'm not going to let my truck set a week waiting on bids to end, I get a broker and load now and I don't wait on my money, I scan my BOL and that money is put in my bank account then, sure I pay for this but it's worth it as some brokers will try to screw you out of the load money. If you look I post bad brokers and have posted 100's that don't pay or don't have bond to cover load payments but my system I can go right to the shipper and get my money. There is a lot of us that don't wait on our money, the old was it could take a month or two just to get paid.
    Email posted by uship: Hello,
Thank you for your email. Please keep in mind that we do not require Service Providers to post their MC numbers or any licensing information on their uShip profiles.

I really doubt they do track any numbers.

If they did, they would be unhappy with the show Shipping wars since several do not run numbers sometimes.

In addition, we have had posters on here that do this through them and do not run any insurance and numbers and have no problems.

When I was bidding, it was always being undercut by bids that could not have included legal haulers with the amount they got.

    37. Legal Compliance.
You shall comply with all applicable domestic and international laws, statutes, ordinances and regulations regarding your use of our service and your listing, shipping, transporting, and solicitation of offers to ship and transport items.

This isnt here to argue. It is what is in there user agreement.

It is and has always been in it.

But, you know they do not enforce it. They have no phone numbers or did not used to. No way of knowing they enforce or not. The show Shipping Wars shows proof that they are not enforcing the rule.

It would be nice if they did, then the freight would not be moved for cost of fuel or less.
