Yes that is good information and helpful but that is not the way it should have to be. If I want to unload my own trailer to make a little more money I should be able too and I should not have to make an invoice that looks like it for a lumper.
If a broker doesn't have a problem paying for a lumper service to unload a truck why do they have a problem with a driver unloading the truck? I have always thought that lumpers were a disease in this industry. It has always been my personal opinion that if the received ordered it they should unload their own freight and break down their own skids. Its not the truck drivers job, nor should it be a lumpers job. That's what dock workers are for. Once again this is just my opinion. Its also for security purposes as well. We have all seen those drivers on the road that we wouldn't want touching anything were going to buy. Same way with lumpers. And lumpers don't have to worry about a background check or anything of that sort. So who the hell knows what they could do with what's on that truck?
I don't have a problem unloading my own truck if I need to. But I'm not going to go through the headache of making a lumper invoice for a broker just to appease them. On my invoices there is a spot for extra accessorial charges, that is where detention, unloading charges, loading charges, etc.
That's where they can find my bill. I don't charge anymore than a lumper probably charge less. And I don't have to worry about somebody else holding me up. I'm no stranger to hard work. I don't mind unloading my own truck if its going to get me out of there quicker but if a broker thinks they're not going to pay me for the work unloading the truck they've got another thing coming. And I'm not going to get cheated out of money that i worked for because a broker didn't get a receipt from a lumper service. Just my opinion on the matter at hand
