If you believe that we should log every quarter hour exactly as it happens, then Shaffer/Crete represent your best bet for change. Since the accident in Florida, Ray Coulter, Don Modern and Ron Ostergaard have responded to the first post HOS changeover audit of a large company, with an aggressive commitment to real time log audits that is mind boggling. First, the number of Crete/Shaffer drivers under suspension is, well, unreal. Second, driver turn over is up. By how much? The answer varies. Interestingly, its mostly those drivers with lots of experince that are getting hammered the most. The word I heard is that variances will eventually be reported to DOT as a part of forcing drivers to comply with HOS regulations. The truth is that judges are beginning to hand down pretty stiff sentences for falsifying log books. What is a falsification? Well, if you pull into the Loves in Kingman AZ and it takes you an hour to fuel, you must log an hour of line four time in Kingman (you can't show 15 min line 4 and 45 min line 1). There are many different drivers out there, and safety comes down to some pretty simple issues. Truth is, if that poor joker in Florida had been operating his vehicle slower around that corner...no accident! No disrespect intended. Personally, I think that if you havent learned the I.T. reality of realtime audits, then you had better fix that MOS KOSH. Maybe one of the administrators of this site would be kind enough to post an image of the 24 hour screen complete with color coded spikes available to qualcomm subscribers. Real Time Audits are coming if some people in the world of safety have their way; become informed or get caught up in the results. Be aware that if you have an accident, the plaintiffs attorney will ask for your log book first. If there is a qualcomm in your truck the smallest variance will be treated as a willful criminal act! I'm not sure what, if anything, should be done about this stormcloud on our horizon, but I strongly recommend educating yourself about it.

I would have to disagree, a little, with your example.
In the case of fueling, I know that with about 160 gallons for fuel it takes me 10 minutes to top off my tanks. I have even clocked my fuel time down to 7 minutes with good pumps. This also includes checking fluids, and washing windows. It's just a simple system I have developed.
Now if I am caught in a line. It's a simple thing you have to do. Set the brake and make sure your cruise is off. If they pull your qaulcomm system it will show that your brake was set and cruise was off. It snaps a picture of your truck about every 10 minutes. Speed, RPM, Cruise on or off, Brake setting, are some of the items it records.
So, I can legally log line one in a fuel line. Also I can legally log 15 minutes on line 4 for fuel. This can be done because of the time logged when the card was swiped and time logged for reported total gallons purchased at the pump.
The problem people are going to have is the variance between their watches and the qcomm time itself. If you are 3 minutes slower or faster you are going to be off on your loggs by a quarter hour. Therefore you have a descrepancy between the truck and your logs. That is where I got nailed. I had it reversed when I contested it with safety and we got it taken care of. That 3 minutes variance almost cost me my job.
If you go to the qualcomm website there is a link that shows you what a qualcomm accident investigation report looks like from the computer. If you know how it works, your company policy, and HOS rules you can LEGALLY use it to your advantage. And yes I know if you so much as sit in the drivers seat or the truck so much as moves an inch it's supposed to be line 3. However, let's be realistic here.FCW9 and truckinwva Thank this. -
