@Grumppy, We apologize for not replying sooner, but we can answer some of your questions:
1. Yes, IdleAir is open, after restarting about 3 years ago under new owners and new management.
2. Yes, IdleAir has locations on I-20 in Dallas:
* Texaco @ I-20 Exit 470: 8181 S. Lancaster Rd, Dallas TX 75241
* Flying J #726 @ I-20 Exit 472: 7425 Bonnie View Rd, Dallas TX 75241
3. EngineOffNorthTexas.org has a good summary of local idling laws: http://www.nctcog.org/trans/air/programs/idling/engineoffnorthtexas/drivers.asp
If you're coming to an IdleAir location, call us at 877-738-7024 BEFORE you arrive, and we'll do our best to hold a space for you.TheDude1969 and Grumppy Thank this. -
Just Idle the truck.
Nobody is going to mess with you if you are on your 10 hr break and trying to sleep, unless you are spewing smoke like crazy.Grumppy Thanks this. -
It's been 100F more or less for a week on and off in the DFW area. According to the weatherman , a "cool" front is 90F!

Personally. I would never stay in the D/FW area ever. Even if I had a an API I would still not stay there. Either go to the Petro west of FW or backtrack to the TA at the 503 in Terrell. If you got time check out McDonalds Bar-b-que at the 509.

The no idle law is REAL and being aggressively enforced by the Dallas City Marshall's Office. I just got a ticket from a city Marshall the other day while parked down the street from Niagara Water on Mountain Creek Parkway. He gave me a big brochure explaining the law. BTW, the fine is determined by the Municipal judge up to $500 and it's considered a Class C misdemeanor. My boss is pissed and he's determined to go to court and fight it. Temperature outside was 91 degrees. I had actually not been running the truck earlier in the morning and had the windows down when it was cooler. I only cranked it up when it got hot.

We'll take your pet with you then they won't say a word.

Dallas has pollution alerts. Supposed to stay inside and not breathe the bad outside air. Better drive the kids to the gym to work out so they're not exposed to the nasty smog.
Does anyone else see the irony here?
Mary -
can they ticket you, if your on private property such as a customer, or a truck stop. And is it the police doing the enforcement, or do they have a smog police like California?

It's getting to the point a driver has to ask a prospective employer "Do your trucks have an APU"? No? I'm sorry I can't work here.
I know it's a big expense but they pay for themselves in the saved fuel. I looked at one of the manufacturer websites the other day and the factory is now installing Tripacs before they roll off the line. When one can include it in the initial truck loan maybe more will buy them. They are the future of trucking. Idle problems solved and everyone is happy.
