I think you have it, I will emphasize your comment, all around Indianapolis is a swap hot spot. Also any place around the Indiana/Illinois border south of Chicago. Flying J Lake Station, IN, Pilot in Minooka, IL (Minooka is small, poorly laid out and stupid congested, if they propose a swap at this location, ask your DM to set it up at the near enough by TA in Morris, IL instead. If your DM has you set up to do a swap in Gary, IN ask them to set it up in near enough by Lake Station, IN.... Gary, IN is just gross).
Sapp Bros in Peru, IL also does a fair amount of swap business but is a little bit too far West to be as hot for a swap as nearer to the Indiana border. Think of places 8 to 10 hours from a big meat plant or other big TransAm pick up point. That is a good place as a relay for a driver who had a problem or is otherwise running late and in need of a swap.
If I had a too far in the future delivery date, I felt I could somewhat induce a swap by hanging out at a swap hot spot. However, I did not have much luck avoiding a swap, I would just get hunted down and directed to a swap hotspot by my DM, even if it meant I had to wait many hours for the swap to work out.
Over time, I did not feel as bad about swaps, they could be disruptive, but really not as big as I came to expect it over time and was better prepared to be flexible. Just from the requirements of the load I was under, the day of the week, etc. I came to expect there was a % chance I would be hit with a swap and started to think of the alternative places I would, sleep, eat, shower, etc. , with that in mind, I did not feel as upset by the disruption if I had to swap.Last edited: Sep 5, 2013
