MPG: Owner ops/ fuel bonus

Nowadays good fuel economy is in the 9 mpg area. Getting 7 is better than 5 for sure though.

 

In another thread I posted a comparison of driving a 2011-12 Cascadia with and without extensive idling. When training with my mentor he idled 24/7 if we weren't moving. I idle almost not at all, usually logging below 1%. His mpg averaged 6.5, while mine is averaging 8.5.

I think the number one method to maximize fuel economy is to stop idling.

 

You got it, take care of the pennies the dollars take care of themselves. Good work . As an owner with my hubby on a number of units I can not stress enough now much fuel savings actually mean. Unlike a number of truck brokers we share the wealth of fuel savings with our drivers. For every 0.1 they can save in fuel they get an extra 1 cent per mile on their wages. We have some drivers who are making very good pay with the fuel savings bonus they get. We also have one who is driving a truck I drove for 2 years getting 7.7 mpg with and he is getting 5.6 . Needless to say his days are numbered. My current Volvo 780 I average 7.7 to 8.3 and I am working towards even better in the future. I have an engineering degree which is how I am able to tell people how much certain things cost in fuel when they are used. Next up for me is having a solar panel made that matches the top of my rig. I will save in the alternator not having to work as much, thus saving me fuel.

 

That's true with the DD15's and SCR. I've got an '08 DD S60 14L with DPF. With 10K in the box headed North my mileage is 8.5 now. Still cheaper then buying a new truck.
