Sheez, what a sad story. I've been to a landfill before, and getting stuck is a fact of life. But the workers at the one I have been to always PULL stuck trucks out (usually with a CAT Dozer and a long chain), as opposed to pushing them out. Had the folks done that the driver might still be alive.

I've seen alot of things at the landfill. Roll off trucks falling over on each other. One fell over on a suburban full of people (still don't know why they were up there) and crushed it all the way to the frame. End dumps twisting up and rolling. They pushed us out from the rear too. Only time I got pulled out was when I was so far back and buried up that they didn't want to get the dozer stuck so they ran a cable out to me.
The worst thing about a landfill is theres no solid ground. Just dirt pushed over trash then packed down. Which makes for spongey ground. It will just give away right from underneath you with little warning. Feel bad for the guy that was killed and his family though. -
I drove a semi tractor with a dump trailer for over a year hauling all kinds of materials. Usually you are safer inside the cab, but not in this instance. My heart goes out to the driver and his family.
