Thanks, i'll call them in the morning and ask if they did that.

I had a truck that was set at 66 mph top speed on the cruise unless you were getting above a threshold mpg, and the 66mph was 1400rpm in high gear in the truck it was geared too tall to pull a heavy load at speed, and stumbled on every hill.
Get a light load, though, and that darn thing would fly. I had finally learned to nurse it to get the cruise speed up to where when I needed it, the darn thing would run to pull the hills, no boost gauge but I used to drive to keep the boost below a certain level when I had one of those, too.
The 250 to 275 rpm spread would be about right with a 13 or an 18 from high to 1 split less than high. -
I guess the first step is to talk with Cat and see if they adjusted the ECM. I sent Mr haney a pm and asked for his input also. Hoping he comes back with an answer.

I just checked the ratios on your trans. They both have the same on the high end. If your rear gearing was specked for the 13, the 18 should be fine. I'd say you got a trans that wasnt rebuilt right and is causing to much resistance. The weght of the 18 is more then the 13, but not enough to cuase that drop. Either you got a bad trans, or someone messed with your engine during install. Final gear ratio is the same so changing tires wont make it any better then when you had your 13.
cetanediesel Thanks this. -
Yes, the only difference from 18B to 13A is the lowest gear, not the top 4 gears.

Just spoke with Cat and they said they didn't touch the ECM at all. I was hoping that was the problem. It would have been an easy fix.
-
What engine do u have? What weight oil did they put in? Heavy oil will kill fuel mileage.
-
Bout guarantee they updated ur ecm, despite what they say, aint no way a tranny swap gonna kill ur mileage,
they get fined if they dont plug into ur ecm and someone finds out bout it, id just get ecm retuned and see
mileage droppin cuz of tranny oil weight is silly tooVinceL Thanks this. -
I'm going to get the ECM checked for sure. I double checked all my air to air lines and snugged everything up. Going to change the air filters also just for peace of mind. I had them put synthetic in the trans so i'm not worried about the oil at all, and i run full synthetic in the 550 as well.
