Today has been wild. I picked up old oldest piece of scrap we have ((#4092)) and fought with the tandems for a while. I shut down at a rest area in MO with 30 mins left on my 14. 15 minutes into the red, some angry dude walks up to my truck and convo ensues
RV dude: Is that going to be on all night?
Me: *automatically assuming hes talking about the reefer* Uh yeah. Thats a temperature controlled load monitored by my company. I dont decide or control what thats set at and cannot change it.
RV: Well cant you go park somewhere else?
Me: Nope. It is 15 minutes past my allotted 14 hour duty shift and DOT says I cannot legally drive this truck anywhere for another 9 hours and 45 minutes.
RV: So that's going to run all night and Im not going to get any sleep.
Me: Dunno what to tell ya dude. I sleep with it every single night.
RV: Havent you ever heard of live and let live?
Me: *not sure how this applies to the conversation, but at this point Im just being my snarky honeybadger self* Yup, sure have. Im about to go to bed and keep on living and you should pribably do the same since its ten o'clock at night.
RV: Why dont you just go park somewhere else?
Me: Why dont YOU go park somewhere else? This is my job and it has rules. Im following them. Youre just out here joyriding.
At this point the guy walks away disgusted and I sit here thinkng and laughing about what just happened. And then I realized my reefer wasnt even n and hadnt been on for a bit. He was boohooing about my APU. Right after that realization the reefer kicks on and two minutes later I see him pulling down his window covers and sucking in the pop outs. And he leaves. A this point I am laughing hhysterically in m truck and calling my hubby to share the tale. Gonna stop on the yard in the mornng and get my truck washed while I get with m DM about this Tcall. What a day!

Honeybadger, you be careful out there. The world is full of crazy people. I am glad the dude decided to leave the rest area.
-
Is there 2 sets of dispatchers? Hubby got his truck and everything at Rockwall, the number he calls for his DM is a Kansas number.
-
it doesn't matter where you pickup your truck
your dispatcher can be based out of olathe or rockwall -
My T700 at TransAm had "Hill Assist". on a hill the brakes would stay engaged until you pressed on the gas. Plus at TransAm their trucks dont have Hand brakes for the trailers.

I used Safe Haven Twice while at transam. First time I ran out of hours at a publix dc because they didnt unload me fast enough and I ran out of time sitting there and they told me I was now allowed to stay on their property. Used safe Haven to get to the TA 5 mails away. 2nd time was at Cocacola in Arbendale. I hit another truck with my trailer and had to wait for the Police to show up. Hours later when I could leave I was out of hours and used it to drive 6 miles to the Loves for the night. Both times No one at TransAm questioned me on using it.

I used Safe Haven 3 times in 6 months. In all 3 cases, I made a pick-up, was loaded, had to leave the property but I was out of hours. In all 3 cases, I drove direct to the closest truck stop.
On this one, if Publix was your final and you where empty, I think you could have used personal conveyance (PC) instead of Safe Haven. That way you would not have been in HOS violation, plus you would not have had to your interrupt break. -
the bottom line is loaded out of hours safe haven
empty out of hours pc
empty being empty and not having accepted another dispatch
if they send you a load just don't accept it until your in the tskirk Thanks this. -
I meant to do a work up of a bunch of stats from my first 6 months of driving as a company driver, for my own use and to share with others so they could get an idea of what to expect with TransAm, never got around to it.
However, just looking at my pay summary, I took home an avg. of $753.66 per week. This is an avg. of 20 weeks, this is full time solo driving and does not include any of my training time/pay. -
that is after taxes?
