I work in several different states but live in Texas. When I file my taxes, I file a 1040-NR for each state. NR stands for "non-resident." I usually get back all tax monies I have paid in over that year to each particular state.
Not sure how it works if you live in a state with its own income tax but work in Texas where we don't have state income tax. I'm sure there is some kind of work-around or deduction that you would get from your home state though.
Best thing to do is just move to Texas. We got a lotta room down here and everone's welcome, so long as they're not a troublemaker, or some kinda subversive commie or somthin'.![]()
Texas or North Dakota - are drivers still in demand?

HA!! Actually Skylane, that is kind of right up my alley. I've been fixing the company "problems" with THEIR equipment for years now - I'm not complaining at all, it's been good experience. Also, the problems I've had with equipment cannot compare to what drivers in WY, ND, MT and other northern areas deal with every year in the oilfields, but I've had my share of bad weather/bad road issues to deal with and....I actually have done real well with it. Here's the thing...I am NOT scared of work. I have really good quality water/weather proof clothing for work and it does not bother me to get out and work in bad conditions - I'm not saying I love it, but I'm ambitious and that is what it takes to make a good paycheck, so I have no problem "doing what needs to be done" - which also can sometimes mean having to wait and not proceed if conditions are too dangerous. I really appreciate the info, because I definitely want to work and if a company is even reasonably appreciative of a driver getting the job done - and rewarding them with more work - then I'm the guy. I have goals and honestly right now it's kind of all about improving my career and my knowledge/experience within the industry. Thanks again for the info.
58Skylane Thanks this. -
new to this site, and the forums...will be getting CDL soon, and have not heard anything about Colorado...a lot going on, but i do not see Co mentioned...
thank you -
When you find something out, please let me know. I've been trying to get info on CO for 8 months.
-
that's funny...i see a million posts in here, about everything...i wonder if that means that nobody has a clue, so there is no reply??

There's a thread back there somewhere on CO Just keep looking.
Those CO guys must be busy, busy, busy! Either that or they are all trying to keep it a secret, lol.mrmosh303 Thanks this. -
Yeah, it's my thread and nobody ever really responded with any solid info on Colorado.
-
They are busy and the Major Service companies have yards you can see from a couple miles away; well at least Big Red does... One thing that I always wondered; was when we did need help; why could we only get help from Alberta Canada! Yes people drove that far down to help out.
Everyone else I estimated had to be extremely busy.
Just my two cents. -
So, if it's the usual suspects out in CO, then a search of their websites would tell you pretty much where and when they are hiring, right?
Just make up a list of the companies that do frac/trucking and start searching. If you do that you can probably come up with a wealth of hiring info for CO.
