OK, but just the same, I see handicapped tag hanging I'm going with the numbers and the numbers say the individual is more often then not over the age of 65 and has impairments that may or may not be expressed to the individuals at the DL office. If you want to take a shot and assume the individual driving the car with the handicapped tag is in their prime mentally and physically, I'm not going to stop you. I'm going to err on the side of caution since I don't have the option of interrogating the individual beforehand. And yes, perhaps one day I'll be one of those old people with questionable driving skills but I'd like to think having spent most of my adult life driving in one form or another, I'll know when to "hang it up"

Same thing happened just north of Bloomington, Illinois not long ago. A car made a U-turn (from the right lane) right in front of a southbound set of doubles. There was nothing he could do and nowhere he could go. I came through about an hour after it happened... it was a rough scene.

Just one mile further.... there was an exit where she could have safely turned around.

That's the latest fad of I don't care and willing to lose their life over 1-2 minutes. They make long on and off ramps for a reason. Signs everywhere saying for emergency vehicles only or no U-turn. Signs are there for a reason but some people can't grasp the concept or make their own exceptions to the law. Unfortunately they payed the ultimate price for monkey see monkey do. My condolences to the family and I hope the driver can get over this. Another senseless tragedy.
