Hi, sorry to hear that driver. Everyone knows that drivers take a 10% pay cut, but besides that, I have been with transport america for six months as well and they treat me pretty good. Even though we do have very slow trucks that can only do 62 lol I am still averaging between 800 and 1000 dollars a week. I am not saying that it has not been bad for you, Im just saying that Transport America has been better that most companies I have been with.

This forum is full of new drivers who job hop. Time for you to change?

Honestly I don't follow a word of what you're saying because unless you're taking the scenic route and running out of hours .... get to your receiver, accept your next PP, take a nap, and roll. You seem very upset but it's not clear to me what is causing the problems.

I will say this, I had worked for Southern Cal Transporr for 3 years when TCAM bought them. The day they told us we had conference calls with the soon to be retiring owner of SoCal and upper management of TCAM. They upper Tcam management promised that we would see no visible changes. And nobody would loose their jobs. The first month Transport America was in control 20 people in operations and recruiting were pink slipped. Within 6 months what I knew as one of the best companies you could drive for went to the slums. TCAM does lie to you, i witnessed it first hand. I saw them ruin the lives of some good people.

There are companies that pay on percentage. You think you get screwed when you're on milage? With a mega carrier as cheap as their freight is, you're going to make less than you would being paid per mile. Now there are a couple around that pay pretty good on percentage. About 23%-25% of the trucks gross. If the truck grosses $5000 that's a pretty good check. I'm not sold on this hourly stuff I keep hearing about either. If you consider $1000 a good check as a company driver and figure that in when it comes to hourly with time an a half after 40 hours and you worked a 70 hour week that figures out to roughly 11.50/hour for your base wage. And have we all forgot the government wants most of our overtime? Soooo I'd say either salary or percentage would be good. That way you're not getting picked apart by overtime, but you're still making a living. Percentage makes a driver work. Pay depends on how hard you work. If you don't want to work, you don't make much, you work your butt off you can make a good living. I may have a different view as opposed to a company driver being an owner op. I'm used to percentage, but have been paid by the mile. Percentage has its perks, Milage if you're paid on the HUB that has its perks. It all depends on the company.

As for the OP there's a reason the only thing tougher than a trucker is his wife. This an easy way of life. Some are cut out for it others are not. You have to do what is best for you maybe trucking isn't it. If it is stick with it if not then good luck in a new career. There isn't any shame in throwing in the towel. Despite what others might say. Its not easy nobody said it was going to be. Its not for everybody, nobody said it was. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
