While you're learning, get the tanker/hazmat endorsement, TWIC & a passport. These will lead to the higher paying jobs. Tanker/hazmat trucking pays on average $60K - $65K per year. Schneider hires new CDL grads for these jobs. Keep this in mind for the future. Quality Carriers will hire you for tanker/hazmat with 12 months experience. So, just do what you have to do to get started. Prime Inc. has tanker training, but don't know if they can use you living near Louisville.

Thank you tons. I suppose I had better grab a CDL Manual from my local DMV then eh? I know PAM may not be everyones favorite but, I have to start out somewhere. Things are desperate at home, and having that little extra money from what looks like a great career will help.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Go to Walmart or Dollar General and stock up on cheap food. There will be a microwave at school or hotel, plus in the truckstops. Buy as much as you can and keep it in a duffle bag.
Cheap instant coffee
Ramen Noodles
Beenie-Weenies
Pork & Beans
Crackers
Tuna

You can't study or concentrate if you're hungry. Ramen Noodles are a truckers best friend!Ndittmer08 and briarhopper Thank this. -
What did driver solutions tell you about the CDL. Do you need a CDL or CDL permit for the school?
-
That is a great question. I am actually supposed to call my agent today, around 2. So hopefully they will answer a few question. As far as I am aware though, the school will help you earn your permit, then after that is taken care of, the actual trucking part of school takes place.

Schnieder also hires from driver solutions but they wont hardly place you with them unless you are turned down by usa truck and Pam from what I hear. In my studies USA truck seemed to be a way better company than PAM though

I think the school Driver Solutions want me at, also trains for USA, but in truth, im confused, and not really sure what to do.

My question is, does Driver Solutions put u thru school, and after graduation, do you pick the company to drive for and they will pay for the school? Or, do you pick the company then go thru driver solutions, the company pays for school, and you drive for them for an agreed time?

When I went to C1, they told us Drivers Solutions owns C1 Truck Driving School and Pam and USA are there bread and butter. I paid $4300 (4 week course) to go there, I heard PAM pays C1/Drivers Solutions over $6000, when I was there over half of the Pam students got cut. C1 only trains PAM and USA drivers for 3 weeks. Some of the other trucking companies require 160 hours which is usually a 4 week course.

I don't have $4300, or any spare cash, thats why I am looking for Company paid schooling. Unless there is no such thing. But, my buddy, who has driven for nearly a decade, says there are companies that will
