Good for you, man. I worked at a city and decided one day that I hated my job. Already had my CDL, so I applied at a bunch of trucking companies. Settled with Maverick because their reputation was good and my wife could ride with me 24/7. We put our entire apartment into a 10x10 storage unit and have been out here for two years. We go to Canada and have been to every state but Washington. We save 800$ a week because the only bill we pay is a storage and phone bill. (210$ a month). We take vacations anywhere we choose and see our family more now than we ever did before. We cook in the truck and have a blast OTR together.
Long story short, it's definitely doable. Consider Maverick. Preferably the glass division. I've been here two years and make .54$ a mile. I average skit 2800 miles a week and usually bring in about 1300$ a week.
Good luck to you, man!
Looking for good OTR company that the wife can ride with me weeks on end

About* not "skit". Darn Swype.
Forgot to mention that all trucks have APU's, and you won't be too far from home. (We have yards in Indiana and Illinois) Staying out for a month at a time is what the glass guys do. My wife and I will be in the truck until Thanksgiving. We usually stay out 2-3 months at a time.mje and drummerwookie Thank this. -
Wow thanks for that first hand knowledge, Rigbuilder! Much appreciated! Ill def check out maverick. I've seen lots of their flat bed and refer rigs. Never really heard anything bad about em!
Rigbuilder and mje Thank this. -
No problem. There are three divisions; temperature control, flatbed, and glass. We also have a small heavy-haul division. Give them a call, get some information. I swear I'm not a recruiter, lol. I just love the company I work for. If you have any questions, send me a PM.
Now we do drive automatics and they're Freightliners, but we stay comfortable. Plenty of space and all that. Really hope you find what you're looking for!mje Thanks this. -
Yea man I might call em! Sound like a great place. Are their trucks equipped with double bunks? I know all the ones I've seen are the mid roof design, but never knew if they had the double bunks or not.
mje Thanks this. -
The thing that sucks is, I love the company I'm at now as much as you do Maverick. Lol. They treat me better than any employer I've EVER had. The wife and I love to go on cruises for a week at a time, and even if I'm outa paid vacation days, long as they can afford to slow me to, they give me the week off lol. If they ONLY went OTR instead of Midwest Regional. Lol.
mje Thanks this. -
