Started school on Monday. We are going through all of the classroom work this week. It is very tedious. Next Tuesday we will go to DPS and take our Knowledge Tests. After that we will have our permits and start driving.

A note on the TWIC card. One of the participants in the class is there for the refresher course as he was idle for some years. He has his TWIC card and says it has made him money and considered it worthwhile. I know its is dependent on your situation (close to ports and such). He has used it for id when check by authorities. He said they told him it was more difficult to forge than a CDL.

Congrats greywolfe and good luck. I would advise you to study for and take all endorsement tests at the same time. There are practice tests here on the truckers forum. I highly recommend them. They have all the questions from the tests. Also when you are at the DMV you can take time to refresh your memory between tests. Plan on being there a few hours. Best of luck to you.

Good luck Greywolfe. Here's hoping you pass with flying colors.

Are you going to the school at Austin CC? I tried to get in touch with those guys but never got a response. Even the phone number on their website was wrong.

Yes, the ACC program. The contact person is Rick Hidalgo. He is really good people. The number is 512-223-7340. I am pleased with the school, a lot of info presented. Of course, you are and adult and the responsibility is on you to learn, study, study, pay attention, etc. I will let everyone know how the driving portion goes.

I did a huge number of practice test and it was very helpful. If you are in my situation and just starting out in trucking, please use all of the great online resources. I drive truck, trucking truth, and with out a doubt, truckers report. A very helpful tool is the plunger as a stick shift and a roll of toilet paper as the clutch. This really help get a feel for the double clutch technique. We are driving now as we have our permits. I did a little time on the service road and some relatively empty streets. The instructor are very patient and helpful.
