Just finishing school. I've determined that I want to be a Flatbedder. I've narrowed my choices to either Boyd or Melton. I've been in contact with both companies. From what I've heard and read the the two look pretty similar. I'm looking for a friendly advice/ input from those that have either dealt or worked with either company.

A friend of mine went to work for Boyd and only stayed 6 weeks. He was hauling a bunch of short haul freight on the east coast.
My friend is a hard runner and would run 150, 000 miles/year at Crete back when you could do that at Crete.

    Lone Ranger,

Thanks for the info. Did your friend happen to mention why he decided to leave Boyd after such a short period of time? Do you know how long ago was? It's funny that you mentioned Crete. They seem like a great place to work for; however, I need a year on before I can switch to their Flatbed Division and their trucks do not allow for the installation of an Inverter to power a microwave or fridge. Bummer! However, everyone I have spoken to has enjoyed their experience their (Crete)

Consider Maverick? I live in blue ridge GA which isn't far from Chattanooga.

Flatbed company that takes students and new drivers. 500 a week for training. .33 CPM to start. Nearly .50cpm after 6 months including your performance pay which is easy to get. Also get paid more for tarping, detention, and other things.

Great company. I have never been lied to by anyone from the recruiter to the dispatcher. When I first started driving I never made a check that was under 800 after insurance and everything. Make a lot more now but you can expect 800 or so starting out.

Feel free to email me any questions you have about maverick. I wish I had known about this company sooner. Cyay918@gmail.com

If you do call them, please give them my name since we do get a little bonus for a referral. My name is Chris Yohn and the truck number is 11093.

Give Jeff Bone a call at 800-289-1100. He was my recruiter and you can trust him. Like I said, I've never been lied to by anyone at maverick. This company is great.

Call Maverick. I drove for them for a short time 9 years ago and I'm considering getting back in trucking. They won't take me back because of an accident unless I complete a safe year with another company. I would go right back to them if I could. They will treat you well, if they are still like they were then. Just do't forget that it is still a trucking job.

I am going to check into TMC. I would sure appreciate some input from any TMC drivers, if they see this.

I drive for Melton. I'm really happy here. Miles are good, equipment is top notch and I'm treated like family.

I'm not going to give my information because I don't care about getting a bonus. I just tell ya how I feel about them.
