I have been taking glucosamine for the last 12 months. I am here to tell you that my joints feel better. It took about 3 weeks for me to notice a change.......at which point I was about ready to give it up thinking it wasnt going to help. The change was very subtle at first, almost like I wasnt sure if it was better or not. But after about a month there was a definate relief.
I dont care about their tests. -
I've heard this before and it's very true. It's really amazing how much the brain can do when it thinks it's taking a pill that helps. Sometimes the pain actually goes away or recedes a LOT because your brain thinks it is.
I'm not discounting anything you say, lobshot, but it's been proven many times that mind over matter is an amazing thing at times. -
well, as far as the brain thinking an ailment better, I guess that could happen, but not in animals. I have seen glucosamine & chondrioten work in dogs and horses, they do not fake it, nor do they think it better.

Excellent point. Our little dog is getting up there in years and we had noticed her slowing down and not jumping up on the furniture etc, and I talked to the vet and he said they give glucosamine to pets all the time with some amazing results. So she and I are both taking it now.
Our little dog is acting like she did 5 years ago. Jumps all over the furniture again. It took her about a month also. -
Well, it doesn't work for everyone. I gave it to my little dog and it made no difference whatsoever, unfortunately.
I'm glad to hear it does work for some. That's great

I always cracked up when I saw the commercials on TV for the dogs
I think we humans can be talked into almost anything
Buy lobshot says it helped ???? -
There is no doubt it helped our little dog. -
I love the commercial for water with it in
It shows it coating the joints
I know I sound like I am a skeptic
I do believe in natural healing, and take vitamins and so on
Now another crazy disease is kicking leg syndrome, oops restless leg syndrome for you believers
Its almost like they come up for a cure that is not needed, then they put a ton of commercials out telling ask your doctor. -
I dont know about the commercial with the water in it. When I started using the glucosamine and chondroiten supplaments it was not even advertised for people as far as I know. Another horse person recommended I try it on a mare I had that was in her 20's and getting pretty stiff in the winter. It is much safer to give an animal every day, rather then medicating them with phenalbutazone, because that will destroy their kidneys over time. That mare started moving so much better she was back in the show ring running gymkhana for my daughter for a few more years. She lived until the age of 36, and was rideable until about a week before she passed. And during that last week, it was tooth problems she was having, then she had trouble with the anesthesia used while she had dental work.
The dog it works so well on is an older lab mix. She is a certified therapy dog that visits senior facilities, libraries, and schools. She was having trouble standing up after laying down for a while, she is acting and moving like she did a few years ago now. She loves to swim again and is very active. Before we started feeding her glucosamine and chondroiten she was on artheritis medication from the vet. She no longer needs the meds. I will always choose a supplement over medication as long as it works. It is generally safer for the animal, or human.
My husband has had 2 back surgeries and he also tried it, it did not work for him. So, it wont cure all, but it does work in some situations.
With my horse, I found the liquid form to be the most affective. With the dog, dog food with it already in it was really easy and affective. Top dressing dog food when kids are feeding them is not the best idea.
I have learned over the years that some unusual or controversial things are well worth a try. That old mare I had was supposed to never be useable after an accident her and I had in 1985. That was the diagnosis from a traditional vet that was well respected in the area where we lived. I put her in her stall, cared for her, and started training a new horse. We took her to a different vet a few months later. He was a DVM, a chiropractor, and an accupuncturist.
He fixed her. I didnt believe until I saw it work with my own eyes. It never hurts to try. Trying something new gave that horse 21 more years where she felt better and was useable.
Dont knock it until you try it.
