My first dump job was for an excavating company. I had rolloff experience but no dump.
Job application and interview process... Can you drive a dump?....yes.... you're hired. No paperwork, no background check, I just started driving. They taught me how to run an excavator and backhoe so I could load my own dirt which I had minimal backhoe experience before. I also hauled gravel and stumps. A fun job and an invaluable learning experience.
Then from there I worked on a paving crew hauling asphalt. Again a fun job but hot.
Keep in mind a dump truck is seasonal unless you prep home sites or commercial year round. There is also various other year round dump jobs like a sand or gravel run for a block plant.
It's good to learn various trucking jobs so you open up your opportunities.
Find you a small company with a couple trucks. If the owner is hands on he most likely stays away from the paperwork stuff and has a simple hiring process. I also was friends with the dozer operator so that kind of helped. Make you some new friends!

Check out redi mix companies or lumber companies, they seem to have high turnover, again due to winter slow down, but you can get some experience to move on to something better. Don't depend on looking for posted job openings, just go in and ask, they may not have any at the present, but may have one in a week or too and yours may be the only application.
I had my first job (mixer) nailed down before I even started school. They offered to train me for my class B, but since my school was being paid by unemployment I went that route and got my A.chris886 Thanks this. -
chris if you can get a WI CDL and get to milw, may even be commutable, Diamond Star sometimes hires for dump. in this area it is a very hard to get into market. it's possible, but not easy. I used to have a few contacts in the industry but they have since all left.
There is some money to make, but ....
the other drawback you will face is the season is getting ready to end for the most part. not a lot of quarry work during the winter months. many dump drivers end up on unemployment for a few months in winter.
I believe it's diamond star, maybe something close to that, something star. -
Nope, especially if you have a wet season.I hauled rock sand dirt, worked of a boring walmart site, driving in mud water ect had a riggetiy ole loud super 10.Made like 2 dollars less then the belly dump drivers.Believe me,its no piece of cake.
