The company I drive for has made us all sign a document that says we cannot use cell phones even with a bluetooth and we cannot talk on our cb radios. This seems to be a zero tolerance as one driver has been fired the first time he was observed talking on the cb. Here is the problem I have. My primary use for the cb is to be warned of upcoming road hazards. We all know the value of this. Warnings of ice, lanes blocked, wrecks, reckless drivers, problems with our trucks, and bad weather are potential life savers. Now we have just been told that we cannot give these warnings to other drivers. If I have a way to communicate a warning of approaching danger to other drivers and don't do it, it really seems immoral and reckless. Would you like me to tell you what mile marker the road is iced over and a lane is blocked by a wreck? My company says if I do I will be fired. Any thoughts?
No CB talking permitted

I think that I would be looking for another company. Because CB's and Amateur radio use is not illegal. But cell phone use can be.
Busasamurai, flightwatch, Reycer and 5 others Thank this. -
I agree, I would be looking for another company to work for. Ones who aren't so (Anal)

I agree....look for another company. Using a CB is NOT the same as texting while driving or talking on a cell up to your ear while driving.
Apparently your company also fails to realize how many MILLIONS of CB's were in use mobil-wise in the 1970's....oh but how many accidents did we have as an end result? -
I agree, time to look for a new company. That is just wrong of them to do that. Cell phone use with a blue tooth is no different than talking on the CB or even talking to a passenger. Some people may argue that point, but there are some people who can't walk and think at the same time.
Joetro, cowboy_tech and Big_m Thank this. -

The other top causes of RTA's are in order,
2. Speeding
3. Fatigue.
4. Not enough space between vehicles.
5. DUI, from Alcohol and or Drugs including marijuana.
So how many of you who think its a ridiculous ruling? Continue to Speed, Follow to close and are constantly tired? And no doubt some over .04 even the morning after??
Add to those texting, changing channels or adjusting the squelch or even dialing a phone number and the odds are against you.
Personally, I can understand a company initiating this rule if it reduces Insurance costs. I can also see in the not too distant future other companies doing the same.
PS; A Bluetooth affects hearing! Weren't you checked for hearing on your DOT physicals?Menehune Thanks this. -
I'd be looking for another job quick can only imagine the other rules they have!
