Okay, so I am working quite a bit and driving an hour each way to work and back so not much time for play. I'm enjoying hauling water and oil in a vac truck. The people where I work are all pretty cool and everyone seems really friendly and stuff. Not sure there is going to be a lot of overtime available here or not. Some say yes, some say no, I'll just have to find out for myself. I have so much info in my head right now that I just can't even put it into words right now. I'll be off this weekend and I'll give a better report then. I'll be on my own after Friday. I'll be on nights. It's beautiful country out here. We have seen a lot of deer and pronghorn antelope and stuff out here on the leases. Our company seems to be pushing for us to pull more loads per shift. Some people seem to not be happy about that. We'll see how that goes.
The job that I was told to apply to isn't a 1099 job. It's a pumper/gauger type job with a very large production company out here. It's a good job according to all I've talked to. I haven't had time to apply for it yet. I am going to apply Monday. The problem is that they are closed when I go in and when I come home. Anyway, so far I like this job. It has it good and bad just like any other job. I don't think I am going to get the overtime that some guys are getting elsewhere though. They are trying to keep everyone to 12 hour shifts due to slip seating. There's a guy waiting for the truck when you get back. Also, there's a lot of trucks down at any given time. The trucks only have around 30K-50K miles on them but they seem like they have 200K. The lease roads are really hard on the trucks. We drive new Mack trucks with 13 speed tranny.
Speaking of the rough lease roads, there are a lot of owner ops out here. I've talked to a few of them and I was surprised that they would use their trucks out here and tear them up but apparently they are making a ton of money. One guy told me he was netting $1200 a day after all his expenses. Seems pretty good but I don't know.
I will try to post again this weekend. I have to get up early so that's all I got for now. -
I forgot to add that there are RV lots down here for rent for around $500 a month or sometimes less. Some of them include water, elec, and internet/cable. That seems to be the cheapest option for housing, unless you rent in San Angelo and drive the hour+ to big lake. There are companies hiring in Mertzon and Barnhart and there might be housing there, not really sure. They are closer to San Angelo though. Some of these companies out here pay quite a bit less than others. Mine pays more per hour than most but, like I said the OT seems to not be there.
I've been told by some of the flowback hands that they are getting a lot more oil further south and that's where the OT is. A lot of the wells in my area don't seem to be putting out a lot of oil, but at $120 a barrel or whatever it is, it's still worth it to drill.10speed55 Thanks this. -
Still workin out here. I only got 10.5 hours last night and most of that was on standby. We are supposed to start a big contract within the next week or so. Hope it happens pretty soon. I've seen some of the other drivers paychecks, they're makin good money here I know that. I'm trying to get trained on winch truck so I can get more hours. The winch truck drivers definitely get the most hours with this company. Not sure if it is the same in other places. It's real dirty work though and the work is a bit harder than Vac or water truck but it's not that hard.

I do winch, vac and heavy haul-hours are about the same for each here.(SE Montana) I prefer winch work-we do a lot of pump skids, skid mounted tanks and 400Bbl vertical frac tanks with Texas beds. Tandems and pole trucks are a real kick-takes more experience though. I think getting winch truck training is a good idea-good luck.

I'm thinkin of going to San Angelo with a motor home, anyone needs a place to stay or know of a good place? I would rather be out of the city, as far as a camp ground or on private property alone
