As we know the magic number for these trucks is 500K. That is when the Kenworth 500K, extended, bumper-to-bumper warranty runs out. My speculation is TransAm keeps good records and has industry data on the 660s. They have indicators from O&M records as well as MPG performance to tell them what trucks they can expect to continue to preform profitable even after the warranty runs out. They keep these trucks, sell off the ones with lower expectations of profitability.
To this point, the truck I was just assigned with 550K miles has a Cat engine. Out of curiosity, Badboy, does your truck have a Caterpillar Engine or PACCAR (Cat engines block are painted the Caterpillar iconic yellow)? How about the HomeTimeKing's trucks that where turned in prior to the the 500k mark, Cat or PACCAR engine if you remember?

Yeah, I agree. This "beat up" truck is fine. TransAm does nice things like put in brand new mattresses both top and bottom bunk for all new assigned trucks. They replace seat covers if needed, even replace full seats if needed (they did in my last truck). I have a apu, built in fridge and the "big boy" electric inverter, auto trans, air-assist everything. TransAm foots the bill for all repairs on company trucks, so as long as I am not bogged down loosing time in the shop (I have not been in the past), I don't really care if on the surface this truck looks "beat up".Last edited: Sep 18, 2013

It is all relative. The T700 have more room, but the 660s are not small by any means. I am 6'2' and I have no problem with the size of the truck. I still keep in touch with my orientation roommate, he is 6'5 300+ and has been driving a 660 for the last 8 months with no complains . well, at least no complaints about the size of his truck anyway.
As a company driver our hauls are all over the board and I never figured out my avg. It is really a mixed bag with few under 400 miles, most 650 or more. I just finished a run of about 620miles and my next preplan calls for a haul Colorado to Maryland of about 1,680.
Good luck!Truckie83 Thanks this. -
Hey thanks passport220 I appreciate the feedback. What part of Maryland are you coming to?
-
No probs. Pick up a load of beef in Colorado tomorrow, make my first stop 6am Monday near Glen Burnie, MD. Then drive up to Patterson, NJ for the final stop to get the truck empty Monday afternoon.
My back haul could be anything. My guess for this trip is something off the docks of NJ. Either a direct Pick-up from the dock, or a warehouse of a company that works with products that come off the docks. TransAm would like to get us back to the Midwest to pick-up new loads from the meat plants. However, does not always work out, have to do it in two stages. Example, pick up in NJ deliver to Ohio. Pick up in Ohio, deliver in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, etc. Now back in the Midwest, pick up another meat load. Rinse and repeat!Truckie83 Thanks this. -
Nice that seems like a good run. At least in my "rookie eyes". Yeah Glen Burnie is about 45 mins from my house. Don't know what time you'll be coming in on Sunday but the Ravens play at 1pm traffic will probably be crappy after the game and a lot of construction on 695 once you get off of 70 if that's the way your coming. Be safe.

^ Yeah, I also think of it as a good run. Among other reasons , it is on the weekend, so I will likely get to run it too. Meaning, not get pulled off on a swap. The main part of the run gives me 4 days to run the 1,600+ miles. I can make it comfortable in 3. However, I don't mind the extra time on a long run. The over all pay will make up my avg daily pay for it to be okay. Delivery day pay will also be okay as I will get the 200 miles pay between delivery points, $20 stop pay, plus whatever empty miles I will be assigned to run to make my next pickup. If it is really good or not, will come down to if I get held up and have an extended wait time at the meat plant, right at the start (not uncommon).
Thanks for the heads up about the Ravens traffic!
