I have been pre-approved to go to either Celadon or Hirschbach on April 4. Does anybody have any suggestions as to which would be the better of the two companies. I see on these threads what most people are saying but I am looking for anything that is current. Any information would be much appreciated.

If you're looking to run it legal go to Hirschbach, they could use the help with their CSA scores.

I went to Hirschbach for orientation, and thanked the Powers That Be I didn't live far from where the orientation was held. I requested to be sent home on the morning of the third day, after two days of abusive treatment by all non-driving employees. I was not alone in the treatment I received (though mine was worse and far more blatant), but they can speak for themselves if they wish.

I've also read and heard a number of complaints about Hirschbach collecting insurance premiums from drivers, but not paying them to insurance carriers (again, company drivers).

They have a crash rate (USDOT reportable accidents) of nearly 10% (last 24 months), and are on ALERT status (under CSA's BASIC score) for unsafe driving (83.5%) and driver fatigue (HOS-85.2%) -- lower numbers are better, just as with SaferSys. This means, if you work for them, you can expect to be inspected far more often, and they have an unusually high number of drivers put out of service. They are borderline on vehicle maintenance, which matches some things I observed about their equipment.

    My advice? Avoid them.

That sucks, if a place isn't going to treat you decent you're best off making the choice to leave. From what I've been hearing there should probably be some changes in the behaviors in the office or just a change of staff. You can't treat drivers like garbage, they're the only ones that generate income.

Where do we find these reports. I have several companies I am looking at and I would like to know. I have been going to the DAC reports on the companies I am considering but I would like view the reports.

I would say NEITHER. When things slowed down in the Moving Industry in 2008 I went to Celadon and they are a complete waste of time. For as big as a company they are and buying up companies left and right they have very next to nothing when it comes to accounts. If you like to sit go to Celadon cause you will sit on average 3-4 days in Waxahachie, TX or Laredo amongst other locations, those two being the worst.
Hirschbach will not let you run legal. For example dispatcher demanded I run a High priority Tyson load 740 miles in an 11 hour period in a 64 mph truck, while I kept calling dispatch while enroute to consignee for a relay enroute just to be told to run it in even if my clock expires......Charles the night dispatch demanded it and everyone at Hirschbach, except for safety was thrilled the load arrived an hour and 45 minutes past my 11 hour clock.
Now I have other carriers trying to contact Hirschbach for verification for my application and they are even rude to them.
Stay away from Both if you value your career and license.
