I run my own authority and haul for a specific company. I was told I would be getting 80% of load and averaging a certain amount per mile. So far it hasn't even been close to what they told me on mileage average. How do I go about finding out if I am actually getting 80% of load without making it sound like I believe they are ripping me off? A lot of the time we deal with brokers for backhauls, and I know the brokers won't talk about the rate that is discussed with company, so how do I ask the company?

way to low, thats what co. give trucks that they are paying all insur. on
cetanediesel Thanks this. -
Hell i give my drivers 25% off the top and they don't pay for anything. If your only getting 80% and its your truck I would re- think what your arrangement is.
cetanediesel Thanks this. -
why cant u ask the brokers directly im a company driver who makes 25% of the linehaul and i have no problem calling a broker and asking about a rate my boss actually encourages this as well as send us the the actual load confirmation

If you're running your own authority, why are you hauling for another company?
You're not an O/O leased on with them like so many others, so don't let them treat you like one. You don't work for them, you work for you, and they need you more than you need them, so I'd make it clear that you have to agree on a rate for any load before you agree to haul it.cetanediesel Thanks this. -
Well I am working on getting a trailer as we speak, but in the mean time I am hauling for a certain company. The deal was that they would pay me 80% of load and use their trailers, and was told that all their o/o's with their own authority are averaging $1.80/per mile on these loads they are hauling. Well the loads haven't been averaging no where near that. I'm kind of new to this o/o deal. I have asked a few brokers that the company deals with on back hauls and they keep telling me that they are not allowed to talk rates to the drivers, only the company I am hauling for.

but if u have ur own authority then u can pull whatever u want dont like the company rates refuse the load and find a different broker to deal with directly if they dont like it who cares u are under no contract to pull just there freight. what is the point of having ur own authority if ur gonna lease on to someone either lose that overhead of ur own authority and find a better company to lease to or find ur own direct freight and make good relations with brokers. the trailer means nothing u can work a deal with ryder to buy ur own trailer or lone mountain and u dont have to lease on to any carrier to do it

Why does one get their own authority, a truck and no trailer? If you jumping in you need to go all the way.
landstar8891 and cetanediesel Thank this. -
Do you believe everything that is ''written'' down on a rate conformation..?
-
they get a rate confirmation on those loads, no reason you shouldn't be able to see it. If they won't show it to you something is wrong, but you already sort of know that, don't you ?cetanediesel Thanks this.
