Be home every night and make good money yup that's funny right there. If I ever fi d something like that I'm taking it myself. I repeat GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. Now if you want a decent paying job we can find you plenty of opportunities. But you are going to spend some time away. Unlike OTR you actually have a schedule of days off, and for longer than just a logbook reset. And at YOUR home not some arsehole town a thousand miles away. That we can help you with

If Trican does it, it's that bases decision. When I worked there (Lloyd) I asked Eric is they did that and was told no they didn't. So it's not a general company policy.

    hi, nitrogen.

I just got my Class 1 here in Ontario from a reputable school. Would the same advice go for me that you've mentioned to freedom4me?

I'm interested in working out west, preferably fly-in fly-out situation.

Do they hired new drivers? Do i need to go down there and knock on doors? What would the starting wage be?

It's hard to find good info on this board. Thanks for your help.

You're not gonna find fly in/out jobs with a class 1, so get that out of your head. There are ample jobs out here with a class 1 that you can be employed in a day just by knocking on some doors. But like was mentioned here many times, you have to be here in their office ready to work with the right attitude.

fly in/out jobs are reserved for skilled workers that are in high demand that can't be found in Alberta. Although class 1 drivers are in demand out here, it's still cheaper to train a class 5/3 drivers than fly out class 1 drivers.

You need to physically show up. Every recruiter and HR person is sick and tired of talking to and emailing with every Tom, Dick, Harry and Daljit from the east about a job in the west. Show up and they'll take you seriously!

Yeah my advice is if you want a job HERE move HERE. What exactly does any of you think makes you so special that an employer should shell out regular flights for, besides the goodness of their hearts. Newsflash I and many others weren't born or raised here. We made the choice to go were money was to be made. I don't see anyone offering me a bonus in equivalent of what even basic flights are, and here you are as green hands and you want the same wages as a local AND paid flights and accommodation while your here.

Yup, I drive back and forth between Vernon and sylvan and keep an apartment in sylvan... All at my expense, it's the cost of keeping a home where the employment situation sucks and working in Alberta. I even had an offer from cal frac to work coil in gp and they would fly me from kelowna and house and feed me in Alberta but I chose a different job and glad I did.

    freedom4me and oilfield Thank this.
