What is the limit on your steer tires? If the steers are 12460 or more then you are good to go if not then you need to move some weight back! By__________________________________________
That is right, move your tandems up. Depending on the trailer either one or 2 holes and re-scale!

 

Sounds to me like you need to slide your fifth wheel back 2 notches.

 

How many of you actually know front axle weight limit for your truck and have verified the tires can handle the weight? How many of you verify steer weight regs for the states you are running thru? This is important info to know... Not every state is 12,000... some are 20,000 (if tires and axles are rated for it).... You just cant exceed 80,000.... Knowing this can make the diff of hours to rework a load or how much fuel you take on..... Obviously you can exceed 80,000 in states that honor the APU exemption.... Ex: 13,000, 34,400, 33,000. This is legal in some states if your truck is specd for it...

 

It is not just the tires, I had a driver in a truck I was managing a while ago got ticketed for being overweight on his steers, the tires were good to go but the axle was rated less than 12k while he was at the limit. The enforcement girl was looking for something to get the guy on and crawled under the front of the truck, actually cleaned the tag off to see what it was and he got the ticket - and the door sticker said 12k by the way. I got the same girl six months later who said I had defective lights on my truck because she could not see them during the day.

Trucks like most Freightliners have Detroit steer axles and most are rated at 12,500 lb. Actually they have different ones up to 20K but they pretty much will equal or exceed the tire rating depending on the customers needs.

My Pete 387 had 7125 tires and a 14K steer axle rating.

There are state limits and federal limits. When running the interstates most are 20,000 lbs. or greater. The kicker that will get most drivers is the tire rating.
