Best way to get a job in the oilfields is to apply in person. I can tell u from experience that in odessa/midland area, rent is pretty expensive. Best bet would be to take an rv with u. Lots rent from 300 - 500 month with electricity and water paid.
Any oil field company's out there looking too train new drivers?

OK, here is my question and situation........... I just graduated from a 240 hour CDL Program at a Technical College here in Louisiana. I have a shiny new Class A CDL, with Hazmat, Tankers, Doubles & Triples, a TWIC, a DOT Physical, and a passport. What I don't have is any actual driving experience other than what we got in school (read newbie)........ so, my question is, "in a week or two I plan to drive from New Orleans to Odessa, Midland, etc, and make the rounds (stop at any place that even looks like it has trucks, and hit the truck stops........ is that a bad idea? Are most of the TX Oilfield Trucking outfits hiring off the web or is face-to-face better? Any suggestions? If you can provide any leads (other than the outfits mentioned in this thread) please feel free to PM me. And, another question, "I ###ume that it should not be too much of a problem to find a hotel/motel room in Odessa/Midland?"

You can get a job here in the oilfield with no experience. I worked for an outfit in Grassy Butte that hired newbies and we hauled water... I would NOT recommend hauling oil as a newbie in the winter... I haul oil and it can be tough!
