he didn't loose controll, sounds to me like he panicd and jerked it ot the right across three lanes and took out whatever was in his way.
If he had 44k of paper it was probably 70% empty trailer, I still wouldn't have the tandems that far up though. Probably the only way he can back it into a spot. With that kind of swing it's no wonder they buy so many hoods for other trucks -
Sadly, I can't defend swift on this one, either. The van side is littered with drivers like that. Our flatbed fleet, however, has an extremely low accident rate. Some of our terminal managers have said the flatbed side is what is keeping Swift afloat right now. I've been in one accident in my career thus far and it was at a Swift terminal. A dry van guy (Swifty) took off my hood while I was in the fuel lane getting fuel. I'll defend Swift as a company most of the time but I absolutely cannot defend the fact that they give licenses and trucks to some people who absolutely should not be driving anything other than a bike.

You mentioned their Flatbed fleet, how do they treat those drivers and what about the O/O's who lease on with them? Not that I am considering leasing on with Swift but inquiring minds want to know.

WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA.
That's what a '53 foot trailer looks like when set to California's '40 bridge law. -
I get treated pretty good. I can't speak for everyone and I don't know how everyone else is treated. The few terminals I swing by as I'm regionally dedicated, everyone knows my name and says hi to me every time I'm at a terminal. They make it a point to ask me if I need anything else and such. There are times when the office staff (DM's, Fleet Managers etc...) seem to be bored and cook up something to create a little drama and I have to argue with them to set it straight etc... but more or less, they leave me alone and let me run. When I need something I get it. I can't complain too much.

Could it be maybe that the freight consists of 3000 lb skids and they're loaded all in the front half of the trailer?
That's the only way I could imagine a 44k load being legal with trailer axles up that far. -
If it didn't go past the 48' mark of the trailer, It could scale out MAYBE, but most likely he would have been over on his drive axles.
CB permit......that one's getting used SOON! -
Y'all seem to be forgetting the bridge law in CA requires the tandems to be up that far.
-
I didn't forget about the kingpin laws in CA, but that picture seems like they are quite a bit more forward than even that. Can't really tell with the angle of the shot and the way the trailer is sticking up there.
