07 780 radiator removal

does fan turn on when temp. gets over hot. if it takes a long time 2 cool down after fan kicks on rad. is not letting air pass thru. fan and shroud must come off,best 2 leave a/c lines on CON.move a/c off 2side then remove big air hoses on intake air cooler clean air to air and A/C con. a helper can roll rad. off to side then use all new hoses and spring loaded clamps.

 

Don't disconnect the A/C lines you will have to evac and charge the A/C again if you do! I hope you have a safe productive job getting this done!

 

How do I remove a radiator out of a Volvo 670

 

It is a real pain in the butt. You also have to be extremely careful of the cursed oil cooler lines. They are plastic they break and they cost about 400.00 or more. You almost always need to replace them. Labor cost at volvo is about 6 to 7 hours. It took me 2 solid days. Luckily I had a friend who had done his before.

 

Radiator, shroud and charge air cooler have to come out as one unit. I disconnect the condenser and leave it attached to the assembly, but I have a Freon recovery machine. You can do it by unbolting the condenser and leaving it hanging. I use a forklift to remove the radiator assembly because it's so big and heavy.

 

For anyone else reading this a harbor freight engine hoist works perfect. If on gravel just buy two sheets of cheap plywood to roll it on. The condenser is just unbolted and left, rest comes out as one unit. Easy. biggest pain is buying a quality radiator today. Original lasted on mine one million with plastic tanks. Last all Metal Detroit radiator lasted one month past there 5 year warranty or under 500k miles. Radiators like all parts today are overpriced and they don’t last.
