if you already have a CDL, just no experience, you'll go on the road with a trainer for 4 wks (28 days), 200 hrs behind the wheel, before you go on your own. If I'm mistaken on those numbers, someone chime in please.

Headed out on the bus tonight, and bound for Salt Lake City to start training on Monday. Pretty nervous, and very much outside my comfort zone, but very excited at the same time. Here's hoping all goes well!
Lady K Thanks this. -
Everything will be alright. They'll take care of besides feeding you and the dmv fee. But they'll even feed you a couple days. Good luck I'm waiting on my trainer he'll be here tomorrow. So all information I'm giving you is current.polarisryan and Lady K Thank this.

Hi all, been a while-occasionally lurk or answer question.
we were with Central for two years and moved to Prime (good line pay by percentage of load) Just really don't like driving East coast all the time...
we have contemplated going back with Central for a while now although the Swift thing is well, a bit frightening. That said, the local in Pasco has been offered... Good pay and all, BUT have been cautioned that the contract was actually taken from union drivers. Any one here with real info?
we are doing it, would just like insider thoughts and or cautions.
back in the fold again Lady K and Klingon, maybe we can do breakfast again soon!Lady K Thanks this. -
If you actually drove something other than a straight truck I'm skeptical that no one will accept military experience. If you can back a combination truck without taking out buildings, signs, lights, or overhangs you should meet the basic requirements of most smaller outfits. I'd keep beating the streets if you're looking for top pay and great home time. Experience doesn't come cheap, whether acquiring it or hiring it. That said, if all you can do is shift (which is something don't get me wrong), you're going to have a rough time getting someone to teach you the rest of it. The people who give new drivers a shot take full advantage of the fact that you're new. It's trucking. We all want top pay and great home time. Good luck either way!

Had snow down here in SW Colo. I know most of the major passes got hit with snow the last few nights. Rain is out, snow is in. Stay safe rolling through this Rocky Mtn state, driver!
Local gig has turned out to be a charlie foxtrot if there ever was one. It's a solid job. But between two truck failures (one before I started) it literally has been the week from hell for my trainer. In the past 72 hours I've been paid to not only guard freight in the rain, but got to sit in a gas station parking lot for four hours while the company figured out how exactly they could get a local tow truck company to come jump start the rig.
Best part? Paid hourly. No more ######## about sitting around and not getting paid for this guy!
Got a nice little letter from Central informing me that I am not rehire-able and that a lease default will be placed on DAC. I knew of these things before I jumped ship. The most interesting part of the letter is the paragraph near the bottom which explains that if I could just find someone to take over the lease all of this can be avoided. Well I tried that and they shot me down since I hadn't been in the truck six months yet.
Still waiting on my final settlement. The truck was due to be traded in, o/o told me it would be shut down within two weeks. Between my maintenance account and performance bond there was enough to cover the truck payment for about a month, so we will see what happens next.
Again stay safe out there.

Make some phone calls and see if they can take your last two weeks of payments out of your maintenance account. I don't see why you would leave with just two weeks to go, but I'm sure you had a good reason. It's worth spending a little time on the phone to clear this up, as you never know when you might need a clean DAC to go find another gig. Best not to limit your options in this industry. Good luck.unloader Thanks this.

NO i had another year left. The truck was due for trade in to freightliner. Thats what I meant, sorry if that was confusing. And yes I will be talking to them on the phone to see what's up with the bottom paragraph even though they said I couldn't do that.

If the truck was due in for trade why do you have a year left on your lease?
