A lot of those dirt bags are probably too cheap to run the turnpike which is why the service area parking lots are so clean
Lol!

It is hard to imagine an oasis having free showers is what I thought in 2008 when we stopped at one in OH, I kept watching for someone to come around and collect money for it. They are a whole lot nicer than a truck stop. I of course loved some of the little newspapers they had, some on Amish, etc.
VA has RA still that allow no overnight parking, what a waste.Vito Thanks this. -
I like rest areas as opposed to truck stops. Quiet and no BS. And nobody backing into you!Vito and RedForeman Thank this.

I saw a OST catch a guy peeing in the lot in one of the service plazas just this week. I don't know what happened to him, but he was getting his paperwork out of the truck when I walked by.
RedForeman, truckon, Roadmedic and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've noticed some states, like MS and TX, either have security guards or law enforcement with offices right on the premises of their rest areas. They also seem to be on top of regular janitorial service and maintenance. Very clean RA's.Vito Thanks this.

I agree. Wife and I love the Ohio turnpike. They love truckers
The showers are clean. Plenty of parking & a nice selection of restaurants. -
We always shoot for the welcome center rest stops when you first enter a state. Those usually have clean bathrooms. I always use the family bathroom to get ready in the morning. Nice to have no one bothering me. Had a guy shoot his snot into the sink next to me one time in the regular bathroom.

At a texas rest area I noticed the guy in the urinal next to me was standing unusually far back from the urinal and was sporting a full on soldier salute. I beat a hasty retreat, no pun intended.

My sentiments exactly. Plus they have green areas that you can walk through, some with tables and they always have lots of shade trees. They are the antithesis of Truck Stops.

I remember when I was a little snot nosed brat back in the 70's the family would drive through Ohio. The rest areas were nothing more then a outhouse. They stuck and were filled with flies.
That smell of of Ohio has stuck with me to this day.
