Looked into Southwest Truck Driver Training. Has anyone been there?

    What companies hire their grads?

Suggestions for Vegas or left coast companies to apply to?

Watkins & Shepard has a terminal in Las Vegas & has tuition reimbursement.

Also you're in the hiring area for :

    Holland Enterprises
System Transport (one of 3 companies on trans-system website)
    Melton Truck Lines

Don't know anything about the school, but there have been some posts on here the past few months from people that went to that school and had no problem landing a good job at graduation. Call any company you're interested in and ask if they accept graduates from Southwest.

There are a few megas that hire out of Vegas and send you to Southern California just a couple hundred miles away for orientation. They'll also send you to school in SoCal and hire you directly after, but I wouldn't recommend that route unless you're short on cash. Plus they'll make you get a CA license which is an added expense...

I am currently attending AIT and my neighbor went to Southwest. We compared notes and he was ok with southwest but he was not as informed on DOT regs and such there. They seem to be a CDL mill but hey some people want that. I like that in AIT there are multiple classes but they give you a lot of information. My classroom teach was an ex Nevada State trooper that worked commercial for 30 years then retired and drove a truck for a year till this job came up and he gave a lot of tricks of the trade while teaching. I am now doing the driving portion and the trainer I have was a driver for over 25 years and his wife made him come off the road so he got this job and he is great at teaching the road. He takes you up and down the boulevard and makes you get into these real hard turns to get you used to driving in the city as well as he takes us out to the truck stops and has us park there not just on the safety of the range. I really am happy with them. All i can say is visit them all and choose what fits you best.

I'm at AIT also, not too sure about SW Trucking even thought they are a stones throw from my home. I'm happy with the AIT way so far, today was my first day on the range so I'm excited!

I'm interested in doing a refresher course in Las Vegas. Would I need to have a Nevada driver's license ?

I wouldn't think so, but the school where your looking to do the refresher should be able to give you more accurate answer
