By the back cover, under drain plug. I've welded a couple times but more pin holes are showing up. Not rusty any place else so I hate to replace the whole axle housing. anyone make a weld over cover?

If its just in one spot I would take some 1/4" plate and shape it to the area and weld it on.Cetane+ Thanks this.

No it's pretty much the whole rear cover. I could easily pock holes in it with a chipping hammer.

By the time you weld a whole cover on it, you would need to remove the gear set to make sure no crap got inside. If it is that bad, how good do you think the rest of the axle housing is? It takes less time than you think to change. It is just a little more than a brake job. Take the ubolts off, and change the gears when its out on the ground pointing up. The yoke is the best place to lift the gears off the axle housing.

If its that bad then do as cetane said, replace it. Its only a matter of time before it cracks in half going down the road.

How about checking a pipe supply outfit. A weld on 16-18" pipe cap, or whatever size it is to the heavy part of the housing.
ModZZilla Thanks this.
