Recent school grad here, looking for a good company with good pay to make a good living. I applied to Crete and now I am waiting for call back or email. Can any one share some insight on what I should look forward to if and when I start my orientation. got a couple of questions I need to ask but looking for experience drivers to help me out here. Any idea to what other questions I should ask?, what dos and don'ts of the industry?...

Never heard of most of the companies that are out there but I will most definitely check them out.

don't limit yourself to one company. there are better ones then crete.

things you should know about orientation. it alot of waiting around.

    things to ask.

how much experience do your trainers have?
how long do drivers have to work for the company before they can become a trainer?
I would ask to see the trainers records.
I would also ask how often do your trainers shower clean the truck and wash there clothes?
I would ask to see if the trainer has got to stay out after picking you up after orientation?

    things to be nervous about.
if the trash can smells better then the inside of the trainers truck. don't get in.
if you meet the trainer and ashtray looks cleaner then him. don't get in.
if the trainer has starts talking about killing there self. I would get out of the truck.
if you are sleeping in the bunk and the trainer gets in bed with you in a 2 bunk truck. and your both guys. you might want to get out of the truck.

things to take with you to oreintation. clothes, shaving kit, blankets sheets, pillow. that's it. Keep it down to 2 bags. don't take anything expensive. and keep a close eye on what you do bring with you. just because they are a trainer. and they have a cdl. doesn't mean there not a thief. so leave gadgets, computers, jewlery and stuff like that at home. once you get your own truck. then bring the stuff with you.

"Does company offer side by side or team training?" is the best question you can ask. Done both and side by side is the way to go, IMHO. Stay professional. Keep your personal opinions/judgements to yourself.

Razor Strike, out!:biggrin_25523: is that a JERSEY THING?

Take a sleeping bag & pillow instead of sheets & blanket. If you're with a trainer & you are driving, you don't want him sleeping on your sheets. When you aren't sleeping, put your pillow in the sleeping bag, roll it up a stow it out of the way.

There really is no such thing as a "good" company for recent grads..What you want to know is "who will lube it up as they bend you over",most dont....

Im with a trainer at Shaffer/Crete right now. I can answer some questions. One question I asked is how many million milers do you have driving for you? If there are a lot then they are doing something right. Ignore most of the questions suggested above. No company can tell you when each individual trainer showers or washes clothes. I have met several trainers for Crete and there doesnt appear to be a nasty one in the bunch. Hope this helps.

To start with I'll say this...these are just my opinions on your questions , they might differ from others , but here they are.

    1. ask how experienced are the trainers? ( anything less than 5 years experience is on the light side )

    2. what kind of safety records do the trainers have? ( a "REALLY GOOD" safety record is a must have for a trainer)

    3. will the trainer be sitting in the passenger seat training you , or will he be using you as a co-driver ( if the latter don't take this job)
