Ive been driving for 3 years OTR. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on a company to get on with and stay with for life. Im running with swift right now. I got my experience and can move on to someone else. Id do OTR for a few years more but eventually id like to go local and be home every night kind of thing. Andy ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Want to find a company and stick with it. one with good benefits and all. Thanks

There are several companies that would be good for a career. We need to know your location first to know which companies you're in the hiring area for.
ajhoward and luvtotruck Thank this. -
Im in Southern California. I have a perfect record no accidents or anything bad on it. I live in San Bernardino basicaly

OK, good.
My first choice would be A&R Transport. Non-hazmat tanker with average pay $62K per year.
After that, any hazmat/tanker company will probably pay very well and have good benefits + 401K.
I made average $65K with good benefits with hazmat/tanker OTR.
With tanker experience it sets you up for some good local work in the future hauling fuel or chemicals. Check Careerbuilder and Indeed websites for local jobs.
A good flatbed company hiring in CA is System Transport, with average pay $50K per year. Check trans-system website for info on that company. Decent benefits and good positive reviews from the current drivers. Trucks have APU's.
As for refrigerated, look at Holland Enterprises, avg. pay $60K per year and good benefits. Trucks have APU's.
Melton Truck Lines, avg. pay $50K per year and excellent healthcare/medical benefits for driver & family. Trucks have APU's.
Research the websites and maybe one of these is what you're looking for in a career. Best wishes.ajhoward Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info. That will give me some good starting points. Much Appreciated

China, I have to say, as a wanna-soon to be, your insight is nothing short of spectacular. I would like to thank you. It's invaluable.
PeteChinatown Thanks this. -
Now go change your "Avatar" to reflect this! I promise no one will show up asking for a donation or to sell you Girl Scout cookies or the Famous Ammos Cookie Dough1, i'm not sure why people don't think they should fill in their location? Thanks.

Also look at private carriers, like WalMart, Ashley Furniture, or similar.

My vote would be Walmart.... If you lasted 3 years with Swift, you are likely patient-easy going and work well with others...... That ought to make finding a comfortable long term job rather easy.
second choice would be hauling mail.
