I try to be be as reasonable as possible however if I ask my operator to do something I expect it done. If I ask for something to be done a particular way, I EXPECT IT DONE THAT WAY. I may choose to explain why, I may not, I just want it done. The company policy as stated in our safety meetings is, do as you are told unless you have a safety concern. otherwise DO without arguing or whining.
The reason I want something done a particular way, is due to my variety of oilfield experience I think it will make the overall task easier or safer.
That experience is why I have been given the responsibility of being the supervisor. Some guys just see it as woohoo now I get a pickup and all these other perks. Myself that's cool but it comes with a great deal of responsibility, for the trucks, for the success of the job, satisfying the customers needs, getting all hands safely home, with all their tender bits still attached correctly, and a bit of company morale thrown in. Do a good job and I generally like to buy a round for my guys at the end of the job. (with my own credit card)
Having driven our tractors, and seen the horrible messes that some guys leave, and other guys who do a professional detailing job, i know which truck I like getting into. My operators get told that when they park it I WILL check it. I frequently have heard, "but but but it was dirty when I got it". My response, well the next guy for #### sure isn't going to say that now is he? To me that is part of being a true supervisor is providing that leadership and example and following up. guys are getting to know that leaving a pigpen won't fly. In the end getting into a clean truck is better for the morale of all the guys involved, but if the supervisor never makes it clear it is expected, it doesn't get done, then the next guy starts out pissed offrainyday lover Thanks this. -

Hey Everyone, Im a long time lurker of the site and finally became a memeber today, I have read the whole thread front to back. I just got out to Alberta and secured a job I am very pleased about, the one thing I am unclear on is, do I have to become an alberta citizen right now or can I keep my Ontario licence and address till I choose if this is where my future stands forsure? Can I be a temp. Ab. citizen? I know this thread touches this topic in a few places but I am still unsure on what I need to do. Any help would be great.

Thanks, anyone thinking of coming out needs to just do it, dont bother with resumes sent from home and phone calls. I walked into 8 offices and got 8 phone calls for interviews and the equal amount of job offers, the work is here! I just home someone can shed some lite on my next dilemma.
oilfield Thanks this. -
Bolt on a set of dual exhaust stacks to whatever vehicle you own and hang some fake bull balls from the trailer hitch. Gets you a 3 month temp Alberta "citizenship".
I think your licence is good for 3 months, but your employer may say different. -
assuming you take up permanent residence you should have 3 months, now if you keep your residence back east then it's up to your insurer there how long, and under what conditions they continue to cover you. Ontario DMV will have their own answer as far as your DL.
-
Ok thats a start, now can I work in Alberta with out Ablerta residence? dose anyone now how it works when your living in on province and working in another is there any issues with taxes and things like that?
-
nope you pay your income tax in your province of residence just like normal. you want to check up though, stuff like Ontario health care may not cover you if you are in another province over their time limit. you need to check with them. Canadian health care is just as expensive as USA if you don't qualify for resident. I don't think it's an issue unless you're outside of Canada but you wouldn't want to be wrong either.
yes YES YES you must have an "Ablerta" residence, hee hee. otherwise we will have to deal with you.......sternly
