I agree fundamentally. With some of those dollars in many of those places comes "anality" that is absurd, no argument.

My Nephew just gave up a Union 100K job in NY at NEMF.Everyone said he is ''CRAZY''..He gained 50lbs,his family suffered because of long hours(14 A DAY)x 5 PLUS 2 HOURS COMMUTE,his hours sucked and he ''manned up'' for 15 years and did it like a ''good man''...He walked away from it a year ago and took a leap of faith..

    1 year later....

My Nephew Joey is 89 LBS Lighter..He runs 4 times a week..He watches his kids play ball everyday..He plays ball twice a week. His wife and him worked things out and have alot of love, romance and respect for each other..He is a changed man and doing well..He has a ''personal'' life again and even a small side business building things out of wood.Him and his wife went on a 2nd Honymoon to Hawaii and had a blast..I am proud of him and hope he keeps seeking happiness...

He went back to a 7-4 job at the machine shop M-F and makes 50K a year. That is 1/2 of what he left...Money is NEVER THE ANSWER TO HAPPINESS...Happiness is a state of mind and an ''inside job''...It will never come from the outside forces...

I would imagine that LTL is a bit more demanding than TL. LTL is not for everyone and yes you can make great money at it but I am sure the stress level is very high there.

On the other side, I currently drive for The Private Fleet. As suggested you can read http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/wal-mart/212372-walmart-here-i-come.html. I started the thread to give insight to the hiring process and orientation. As far as pay, we are payed for everything we do, not just mileage. Starting mileage may not be as high as what your current employer is going to offer but as it was stated earlier, its about your needs. If you would like some more info, you can PM me and I will help with what I can. As 48packard said, you should def pursue it to see if will be something you would be interested in.

I drove for Wal-Mart back in 85-89. They were a good company to work for but things changed drastically while I was there. There were a few wrecks with fatalities and the Private Fleet clamped down hard on safety. Not saying it is a bad thing...but it was very different.
They do pay very well and they pay you for everything you do to include sleeping if you have to break away from a terminal. I have heard all the folklore and urban legend about Wal-Mart drivers making $100K but I never did and I never saw anyone make more than about $80K. (still a lot but those guys were working 7 days a week)
They micro manage every second of your day and if you screw up your logs, refuse dispatch or run out of route they will cheerfully fire you. If you are a driver that can work like that you'll make a good living and you'll never unload a trailer (in fact you aren't even allowed to open the door) and you'll never run illegally.
I don't have anything bad to say about them but after things changed I was more comfortable buying a truck and working for myself. And NO......I was not fired....and still have friends that driver there.

Quite often, companies that pay extraordinarily well have extraordinarily high expectations. As landstar8891 put it, "Money is NOT everything". One cannot put a price on health, freedom, privacy, and sanity.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

I like that statement...So True..Allthough i rant and rave i like landstar and i like working 3 days a week and having a ''normal'' life outside the white line and truck...So many drivers DO NOT have that and are so so miserable and unhappy..
