Looking for a specific GPS.

I have a Garmin DEZL 760 that I like a lot and I also have a Rand Mcnally 760 that I don't like, they will both start you on a path and when you go off course they will recalculate a new path. The RM 720 has an option you can select to compare 2 routes but I don't know of a GPS that will let you program your route into it. Just do it the old fashion way and write the directions down on a note pad from reading the road atlas.+

 

Mostly all GPS units will calculate the fastest routes, rand McNally has a truckers GPS that might perform the functions that you're posting about. I use a TomTom 50-TM start along with the atlas, keep in mind no unit is going to be perfect some will put you in the how am I going to get out of this jam situation

I have the Rand McNally for truckers.. It doesn't have the cability for me to tell it a specific route..BUT I outsmart it by programming in cities/towns on the route I want to take as a multiple stop load..then once I reach or get close to that city I tell it to skip to the next stop..

second on the copilot.

you input your address. and it calculates the route. you then click on my route, then alternate. and it gives you 3 options. along with miles and time for each option. you can also buy the active traffic alert for an additional $10. it's pretty sweet from what i've seen so far. and it also gives you speed limits. but only on the highways. and most of it. is car speeds and not truck speeds. that's the only aspect it gets an F on.

i have the rand 760 model with eobr. i don't use the gps software. my copilot runs circles around that thing. AND gets me there.

there's also pcmiler hand units. copilot and pcmiler are the same company.

the only drawback, is it's not as fancy as the more expensive units. but what those expensive units can do. there's an app for that. on your phone for free.

 

This. This is the only way to program a route that you want with any GPS. Use the atlas, decide what route you want to take, then on the GPS select the city centers that are along/near the specific interstates, highways, and roads you want. The GPS navigates to those cities, and when you are close by you tell it skip the city center and to navigate to the next stop. It works great and I do it all the time to avoid Washington DC.

I get a erase marker and write my route and fueling all on my window! I look at my routing from time to time and keep her rolling! I don't use the GPS things they will get you stuck!. Ten I just erase it at the end of the day and start all over on the next morning!. Good luck!
