So true. That's very good advice, and your right, I am a #######. I guess that explains all those brake fires I've never had and all the people I'venever hurt and all the property ive never damaged and all the tickets ive never got. It must be because of all the insane things I do out here...

Look, we can sit here and be smart ##### back and forth all day long, and knowing the nature of a trucker, im sure we will. But heres the bottom line. EVERONE has coasted at one point or another. At least one of those times, you had your fuel in mind when you did it. If you are a smart driver, you can do it safely and every one goes home happy. If you are a reckless driver, you will find yourself putting your brakes out or killing yourself and others. Period. If a driver ever tells you they have never coasted ever in their career or they tell you theres no safe way to do it, they are liars and hypocrites or they screwed up at one point when they tried it

I will still stop and lend you my fire extinguisher ok. Settled now? Great.

It all "STARTS" at spec'ing your equipment adequately.. you just dont pull a reefer with a flat top and expect to hit 6+ mpg.
Engine + programming + transmission + rears are big numbers at percentages of savings but bigger more, its the driver and "add ons" attached to the equipment.
Tire size, pressure, air deflectors, trailer skirts, air up systems, air tabs, etc..
then you got mother nature to deal with.. terrain, weight of load, outside temperature..
Man-made would be stop lights, traffic and fuel quality as well as lubricants.
I've driven for 11 years and still cant get more than 7mpg out of my aerodynamic tractor.
We learn everyday, keep your mind on your task of achieving your best, it'll come one way or another.
Stay safe drivers -
Dont forget coasting

How does a jake brake have a effect on fuel efficiency?
-
i've started using my furnace for heat. instead of engine for a/c now. don't see the fuel gauge dropping as much.
