Is there anyone familiar with optima tax, they are charging me 16,000 just to prepare my taxes. Now i am really in the rears, but that seems excessive. No misprint--------$16,000. I have not filed in 10 years. Yes i am an idiot.

I have several over 5 years, and never have charged them anymore than the regular rate with a late fee applied. It violates the ethics rules.

I could not imagine the amount of the tax return work justifying such a price.

While I have no firsthand experience with them, yet, I have talked to and will be trying out ATBS out of Colorado. You might give them a call.

Also...depending on the records you have....you can do theem yourself on turbotax.$100/yr.if you don't have records and receipts or whatever from whatever situation you're in the accountant doing them won't be any better off in you doing them yourself on TurboTax

H&R Block advertises that their tax geeks absolutely love it when someone brings them a box full of w-2 forms from years past and drops them on their desk. Might be worth a call - they've got a reputation to uphold after all.

May I ask why you did not file?

Were you hoping to get a cell with Wesley Snipes?

I am sorry for the situation you are in. However, I hope every fool that is a company driver but getting a 1099 takes heed of your situation.

Regardless of the reasons, you need to get these old returns filed. Anyone who agrees to work on a 1099, should be putting money back so that the funds are available to pay their taxes. If you have all your records, you could do them yourself online. There are several tax software program services who offer online filing. TaxAct is another that is pretty good. I know someone who has used it for several years. I think that all of them are pretty much the same. You plug in your numbers, the software asks questions and you fill in the blanks. When completed you can print out a hard copy or file online. At least I think you can still file online with back taxes. If you don't want to do them yourself, check around locally to see if there are any CPA's or bookkeeping services who have experience in trucking. There are several tax and bookkeeping services that cater to the trucking industry. I would also check the OODIA website. I believe there is one or more companies listed where you may be able to get a discount as a member. They may also just have a list of services that can also help. The cost you were quoted does seem excessively high. If you have everything organized, it should not cost that much to have your taxes done. Most tax preparers use software that they can plug in the numbers and then print out the return for you to sign. One advantage to doing them with the online software is that it will do all the calculations for you so there is less of a chance of making errors.
