Anyone working this fleet? Can you tell me more about it? It's supposed to be a fill-in fleet for Dedicated accounts that are having trouble covering. Recruiter says it's a mix of van, reefer and flatbed. Best part - I think - is that it's flat rate pay. Recruiter says it's minimum $1050/wk for the first 2 wks out, then $1300 for the 3rd wk and $1450 for the 4th. Minimum 2 wks out.

Yeah those are a good account. Your a floater go were they need u. I know when driver they fly him around the country to help accounts with drivers on vacation.
-
The trainer that trained me is one of those "Flex Fleet" drivers. He has to do a lot of dollar general routes around the country. They are always short handed.
-
thats because a lot of drivers do not want to do dollar general, you make fairly decent money but you work your butt off hand unloading those trailers.
-
Yes, I've had experience with Dollar General at JB Hunt. I requested a transfer after the first load! Unloading an entire 53'-er every day is a lot of work, but those "rolltainers" are a #@!$%! I'd rather touch every box than have to wrestle with those overloaded, top-heavy, busted up pieces of junk! And after the trailer is empty, you have to *load* a bunch of empty rolltainers and take them back to the DC... or go find them stored in trailers at drop yards when the DC gets short. Those rolltainers are nothing but a big, dangerous, time-wasting pain in the ###, and there is no doubt in my mind that they are mainly what accounts for the extreme driver turnover on that dedicated account.
There's a Dollar General distribution center in Scottsville, KY - not far from Bowling Green where this job is advertised. I imagine that Dollar General account is mainly what they're trying to fill? I know the turnover on that account is ridiculous, at JB, Werner, *and* Schneider! Can anyone enlighten me on how likely it is I'd be stuck at that one account for a long time if I joined this "Flex Fleet"? Or will I really be moving from gig to gig in a fairly short time like the ad suggests?
In any case, the money is much better than JB or Werner were paying for this account; it's almost worthwhile!
Thanks for your info! -
Swift does dollar general as well and they are always looking for drivers too, it is just a tough account for any carrier.
-
My best guess would be about 90% dollar stores. And also my old trainer has been hurt twice unloading that mess.
-
Copy that; mostly Dollar General. Pay *is* good, though...
-
yeah pay is good, you just need to make sure you are capable of handling the physical labor since its not for everyone, I would do it for the nice money if I didnt have a bad back.
-
I did it once before and quit on the first solo load. It was August, in the middle of a heat wave - over 120 degrees in the trailer - and I was *way* out of shape, having just come from a couple years OTR. That was a heat stroke waiting to happen, and my momma didn't raise no fool! This time I'd be starting in the fall with much more manageable temperatures, and I've got a month or so at home to "cardio up" a bit if it looks like they're going to sign me in. I should be in much better shape when august rolls 'round again. Still waiting on the results of my phone interview... I guess they might be a bit choosier than usual for this fleet?
