Wore Dunlops for about 7 years. They are stiff as stovepipes in the cold (like walking in ski boots) and are as slippery as ice skates. My son switched from Dunlops to Baffins a couple years ago and said that they were considerably better. I bought some Baffins last fall and used them last winter and preferred them over the Dunlops. Definitely get the booties but make sure you wear them when trying on the boots as you will need a boot 1 to 1 1/2 sizes bigger than you would normally get.

Try some Michelin's, the walls are a lot more flexible. :)

It will work for The Patch. Now myself, I am still looking for the right fit with a potential new employer. As an OTR freight hauler, you can still get away with phone calls and e-mails.

But, more importantly, Canadian Citizenship, or Permanent Residence Status, is a greater priority if you want to work at all. Welcome to our Country.

My choice for winter boots is neither of the above. Insulated fire fighter boots, or the look a likes without the expensive NFPA sticker. When I was cementing I used them year round. They're light enough to use for summer rubber boots and have decent grip

Hi nate. I have not yet met notforhire. One or two of his comments appeared initially to sound harsh to me. Once read for a second time, I took them as direct & forward, not harsh. There is a pragmatic approach to his thought process that makes for an efficient separation of wheat from chaff.

But yeah, I can see how the first time would be scary. Ten minutes later, we would probably be allies.

    Hi Guys.

I'm an English trucker (Class 1 HGV) with 12 yrs exp on various jobs through UK agency-work. I'm looking to work in AB (possibly the oilpatch). Any of you guys know any decent companies who will hire UK drivers, put them through induction, etc.?

    Thanks up front

Understandably it's a wee bit of a road trip to come job hunting:) I'm not sure of the process, whether you would need a work visa first or if you need an employer to sponsor you. If you can work through that stuff getting a job should be fairly easy. Most companies won't be terribly familiar with the foreign worker hiring process so the more knowledge you can bring to the table the better your chances. I wish you well

Canyon ran a recruitment drive in the UK and hired a bunch. This was last year. I have no clue how successful it was, but it might be worth asking their HR/recruitment people.
