Back in the olden days, when all they had were coffin bunks, it gave the swamper a place to sleep. Rather than try to fit around the shifters on the floor, spread the sleeping bag on the hood. Nice and warm as long as it didn't snow too much.

Pete 386 is a great compromise. Peterbilt took the 379, pulled back the front axle, tucked the air cleaner and exhaust, changed the radiator and hood.
The 386 is a 379 with a plastic hood and shorter wheel base. Not quite the ride of a 379 but close.
I love the 386. Better mpg, same truck.

Because some guys have tiny manhood and need to show their manliness in some other way.

In all reality, most think they look cool. Truth is an aero hood will save you way more in fuel then you would ever save from easier maintenance in a long hood.

Really? How come my buddy can easily crack 7.0 mpg with his W9 and I have to work hard to get 6.5mpg in a T600? In all fairness he does have a roof fairing pulling that box and I don't. Driving style and speeds are about the same, loads, weights, routes. It has more to do with who is behind the wheel than whether or not you drive a plastic bubble truck.

That's what they all say when they can't drive a hood but really want one. I can't see fuel mileage being such an issue to a company driver. Or what they drive for that matter, in the end it comes to when its my money I'm spending I can buy what I want. And I did.

Yes, driver matters more then anything for MPG. So does engine, tires, trans, rear dif, wheel bearings, age of engine, hp etc etc etc. BUT...all things the same, an areo "bubble" truck with get .5 to 1 mpg better then a long nose.

On my Columbia, with an s60 and a 13 speed, i get 7.5 fully loaded in hilly area and over 9 empty.

I'm an o/o and just a little in fuel savings is over 10 grand a year. I wouldn't be caught dead driving a long nose. My Columbia has so much space int he back you can jump up and still not touch the ceiling. The pasenger seat is almost to far to put things on while driving. The visibility is amazing. maneuverability it so much better then the 379 i used to drive. So I ask, do you want to look cool, OR do you want to make more money, be more comfortable, have less accidents (better handling and better visibility), have more space, maneuver easier.

I'd rather be comfy making more green in an easier truck to drive then look cool.

The ones with a manhood issue are always talking down other's trucks. Some guys with "real trucks" do this about "plastic" trucks. Then there's guys in plastic trucks that talk down hoods. There's plenty on either side.
