Were you actually employed by them yet?

If not, then I would fight that. Write USIS a letter demanding that McElroy provide some sort of substantiating proof of that charge.

They are true about getting there drivers home on The weekend. Where I park a couple of MTL driver do also. Usualy Sunday night they are heading out. I wish I could afford to have options such as a true weekend at home.

You really seem to be kind of obsessed with McElroy. Your husband has moved on, perhaps you should too. It seems pretty clear to me from what you have posted that where you reside has a LOT to do with how much freight McElroy had for your husband. If TMC is a better fit for him, then it is a "win/win" situation for everyone involved. Why continue to bash McElroy when a current driver (me for example) has already pointed out that your husband's experiences do not seem to be the "norm" company wide; not for me, not for my fellow McElroy drivers who live and park their trucks where I do, and not for the guys I went through orientation with and trained with.

ALL flatbed work is slow this time of year and especially in this current economy. If you have sattelite radio, listen to "roaddog" channel and you you will hear it said from everyone across the country.

Pick any Trucking company you want and you will find a)happy drivers, B)satisfied drivers, C)less than satisfied drivers, D)unhappy drivers and then finally E)Drivers who spent a few weeks/months at the company and it just wasn't a good fit. My personal take on the issue is that E is a pretty good description of your husband's time with McElroy.

Did I get as many loads as I would have like this week? NO. Did I have somewhere to go and did I get paid for every mile I went all this past week? YES. Could I make more money elsewhere? Maybe. Does that make McElroy a "Bad Trucking Company"? Absolutely not.

I only posted here because I came here BEFORE I chose McElroy to work for and nothing terrible was posted about them. I have worked for them since October of 2007 and SO FAR they are a good fit for me and for 6 out of the seven guys I went through orientation with as of this writing.

And what about the "seventh" guy who quit? Well, he couldn't find a place to park in New York one night, so he apparently decided to just keep on driving for hours and hours and miles and miles until finally Cuba called him and told him to pull the truck over and shut down for 10 hours. He copped an attititude about it and quit. I'm just waiting for him to make a post about how bad of a company McElroy is for asking him to stop violating D.O.T. regs :biggrin_2559:

Well I know they run a criminal background check and they run an extensive DMV check. My DMV report is currently clean, but I got a D.U.I. in 1991 (17 years ago) and they knew about it from their research. They also send letters to your former employers asking questions about you.

I think the main thing they would frown upon (like any trucking company) is major felonies or accidents (especially accidents in a big truck). Fortunately, my one bad ticket from 17 years ago didn't prevent me from being hired. It would probably be best to call them and tell them about your personal situation, I'm sure they'd be straight forward with you if they were not interested.
