Well i am done with my first day at Orientation at US Express and thought I was going to fail my roadtest by grinding the gears, but I passed. LOL. Anyways, I am going solo running the 11 Western States. Hopefully I will have low miles since they pay on a sliding scales I can make good money. But my question is: When its time to park for the night and their is no truckstop parking and you have to park is it ok or legal to park on the side of the road or on or off ramps? I am kind of nervous going solo I am still new at this and only drove team for six months and didn't really park that much and if we did we had to time to find a spot. I have to learn my time limits and such. Any help. Thanks guys.

Never ever park on the side of the road, or on the shoulder of an off ramp. If it's a last resort, you can usually get away with parking on the on ramp side of an exit, depending on where you're at. Some states allow it, others don't.
Personally, I work my schedule so that I'm parking long before everyone else is in that mad dash for the last spot at the truck stops.
Also, don't wait until you've driven 10.75 hours, and then decide that it's time to shut it down for the night. Use some common sense and start looking a little early.

When you on your own try to plan your trip before starting . Pick a truck stop to sleep at for the night and try to get in there early enough to get a nice parking spot . Ask drivers questions as thet come . Also truck stops have free booklets that show truck stops in every state . A great thing to have as you travel .

    You'll be fine ...

While in California do yourself a big favor and do not get caught sleeping on exit or on ramps or shoulders of the road . The CHP will wake you up with a ticket book in hand .

Been there ! Not pretty :biggrin_25510:
