I think GFS drivers get Penalized for Mispicks, US Foods and I think Sysco ( at least in my District, its not allowed in Teamsters 705's contract) doesn't Penalize for Warehouse Mistakes, Warehouse Problems are not our problems.

How many days a week do you work? What kind of shifts are there at us foods?
-
I work 5 days a week, I start at 5am till I'm done( between 11 to 14 hours a Day) Off on Weekends, we have 4x10 Drivers who are off one day during the week and off on weekends. We have some Drivers that start between 3am to 8am depending on their Route. The Bottom 20% are on (110 drivers, so the bottom 22 drivers ) the Open Board where they Pick routes Daily according to seniority. Anything over 8 hrs for 5x8 drivers and anything over 10 hrs for 4 x10 drivers is OT.

I've done beverage delivery (7Up) and food service (McDonalds), will never do it again, yes the money is good, but for all of you talking about being in physical shape, it will come back to bite you. I've got a good friend who's worked for Sysco and US Food, 28 yrs he's been doing it, 6 months ago he blew out his knee coming down a ramp, 3:30 in the morning, he and the 2-wheeler tumbled down the ramp, couldn't move, just lay there screaming in pain, the employees didn't start arriving for work till 6 am, by luck a cop patrolling the parking lot saw his truck and checked on him. Taken by ambulance to the ER, three days later he had to have one knee replaced and the other scoped, they also found chips in femur where it meets the knee. Sysco fired him after he'd been off for 6 weeks, it's now been 6 months and he still doesn't have clearance from the Dr.'s to go back to work. Sysco's workers comp is paying the medical bills, and 1/2 of his salary, but that's not paying the bills. Al things to keep in mind.
Cbake84 Thanks this. -
Injuries can happen on any Job, sorry for your friend but it does happen, under Illinois Comp Laws you cant fire someone for getting Hurt, but then that's the Law in Illinois.
-
We aren't union here. N I've never seen anyone get fired for getting hurt but I do know there is something that after 3-6months u have to reapply or some crap. We had guy who got shot in the hand and was out for yr and came back to his job

Every State is different, and a Company could always come up with something or makeup something for a good reason to fire someone, or just wait till your back from Workman's Comp for awhile then fire you.
-
this is his case, the company has come up with something different, basically, that he will be unable to fully do his job when he returns and they have no other positions open. But yes, injuries can happen on any job, but food/beverage delivery does have a higher than normal rate because of the risks involved.

Your right, mostly back, knee replacements and torn rotator cuffs in Foodsevice delivery( I had Rotator Cuff surgery on my right shoulder). Sometimes it happens No matter how safe you work.

Im at home right now with a broken leg, fell out of my freezer on september 3rd. managed to limp inside of the business i was delivering and sit down while i waited to get taken to hospital. Sysco will load you down and make you old. I had 27 stops with 1003 cases the day i broke my leg. I was in quite a hurry trying to keep my deliveries on time
