May be a dumb question... but I've noticed a lot of drivers that put on their 4 way flashers briefly after changing lanes... is this some kind of signal, because I don't know what it is?

If they are passing another truck that flashed their headlights as an ok for them to pull in, it's a thank you. Some will do it for cars as well.

    WITrucker87 Thanks this.

Thanks the driver behind him for letting him over.

First reply is probably correct in most cases. I don't do 4-ways, I do an alternating of direction turn signals, but the intent is the same ... to let the other know you "appreciate the help". Also, some will do this in dusk/dawn hours or during rain events to tell the passed driver to "TURN ON THEIR HEADLIGHTS!"

    WITrucker87 Thanks this.

Most drivers I see have the tail lights they can turn off, then on.

    Same concept.

Regarding flashing your headlights to let a driver over. Some drivers will say they do not need your help passing you.

But in traffic with 4 wheelers, when a passing truck is being followed by a line of impatient 4 wheelers, a flash is used to let the passing driver know they can change lanes in front of you, perhaps leaving less than the safe several truck lengths, to keep the 4 wheelers from zipping into the right lane and trapping the passing truck out in the left lane for miles and miles...

I always hit the marker light interrupt button after passing. Even if the driver I'm passing didn't flash/turn off his lights to say I'm clear to come back over. I do it mainly to say thank you and stay safe. It's the little things out here.
